Re: Safeway Confirms Sale Talks...
I believe that one of their goals with the Just4U program was to become less dependent on newspaper ads. If they can refine the Just4U program so that they can maintain sales without having to run one or two inserts in every newspaper every week, there could be a lot of savings. I know that the new ...

Re: Safeway Confirms Sale Talks...
The Albertsons brand is NOT widespread in Texas. According to the Albertsons Website, there are 70 Albertsons stores in Texas, almost entirely in Dallas and El Paso. Albertsons exited major Texas markets in the 2000s and does not exist in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. There are 107 stores in the ...

Re: Safeway Confirms Sale Talks...
This is not as simple a question as Cerberus / Albertsons or Kroger buying Safeway. There is significant overlap between the three companies across much of the West and it seems very unlikely that a full merger with either Albertsons or Kroger would be allowed. Safeway and Kroger have massive overla...

Re: Two more SW Washington Albertsons locations to close
It looks like the Albany, Oregon store got cut: http://democratherald.com/news/local/albany-albertsons-to-close-feb/article_31d0dbdc-7ca7-11e3-b986-001a4bcf887a.html. This store is very close to a Safeway and a Fred Meyer and not far from a Walmart Supercenter and Mega Foods. The other Oregon store ...

Re: Two more SW Washington Albertsons locations to close
As of 2011, the Fourth Plain store (the one pictured in the Columbian article) had the blue-grey interior. Based on the Columbian picture, it looks like it still has the blue-grey interior, although it is tough to tell for certain. The exterior of the store got a new paint job since I took the attac...

Re: Arby's New Logo
Alpha, how are you so sure that "They are not changing the logo again"? Your statement is 100% definitive -- do you have some inside knowledge that the rest of us don't? I've seen the same ads on TV that others have seen, with a third logo, which suggests to me that Arby's is at least cons...

Idaho Statesman article about Albertsons
The Idaho Statesman stepped back and did a big picture article about the newly recombined Albertsons. The article is an interesting read. It paints a picture of a company that is making improvements. It also says that Albertsons is buying a small-ish chain of stores in Texas. The article is here: ht...

Re: Bend Sears store closing
I was surprised to see that there actually are three Sam's Club stores in the Seattle region -- Federal Way, Renton and North Seattle. I have no idea when these opened. Given that Costco seems to be at least as good of an operator as Sam's Club and that this is Costco's home turf, this was a somewha...

Re: Rite Aid finally updating acquired PayLess stores
They recently remodeled the store in Albany, Oregon, and walled off a portion of the former space. This is a store in a strip mall with an Albertsons and would have to have been a PayLess (although I don't know that for certain).

Re: Bend Sears store closing
Storewanderer, at least one of the other Portland-area Neighborhood Markets also moved into a vacant space. That surprised me, also -- Walmart has been so rigid in only wanting to operate in "custom" buildings historically. I would imagine that they believe that utilizing vacant space gene...
