Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?
There is a casino I occasionally visit where I sometimes eat at their buffet. Their layout is such that it wouldn't take much to shift to an employee serving model, as there is space behind all the buffet tables where employees replenish the food. Drinks and desserts are served by employees in the b...

JCPenney considering filing for bankruptcy
The current Coronavirus situation has apparently pushed JCPenney closer to the edge: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/04/15/jcp-jc-penney-bankruptcy-coronavirus-covid-19/5135988002/ While not a complete surprise, it illustrates just how a big event can shake up a retailer already on the edg...

Re: Coronavirus and wearing masks in stores
Because this thread is drifting a little from the topic, I edited the name of the thread to more accurately reflect what I was intending to discuss.

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets
Safeway NorCal seems to have made a few changes. First, they have one way aisles now, designated with shoebox sized stickers on the floor (very easy to miss) and I don't see this being followed unless it is policed by employees. Also the pinpads at checkout are now wrapped in plastic wrap with cuts...

Re: Coronavirus and masks in stores
For safety reasons many businesses, especially gas stations and banks, often posted signs around Halloween advising people to "remove masks before entering." This was obviously for safety reasons. It is so funny how many things have been turned upside down by this whole situation. It woul...

Re: Coronavirus and masks in stores
Moving back to the topic of this thread.... I recently had to visit a local credit union, which has closed their lobby and was using the drive-thru lane closest to the building, which was blocked off, for walk-up transactions, with other drive-thru lanes using the tubes. While waiting in the drive-t...

Re: Department Stores and Coronavirus
This is one of those "gray areas." Stores like Ross, as well as department stores such as Macy's and JCPenney are closed along with most mall stores. Other non-chain clothing stores are closed because they are not deemed "essential". Meanwhile, Walmart, Costco, Target, Fred Meyer...

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?
Why are we even talking about Sears/Kmart? It's a deadman walking chain that has closed 95% of their stores. These are two chains that, at one time, were top retailers. It will be notable when the end comes because of their history. I will admit that Kmart and Sears are already perceived as dead ch...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets
Not too long ago, Albertsons began selling its lowest priced milk, eggs and daily branded as "Value Corner." Does your local Safeway carry Value Corner branded milk? If so, recognize it's just a marketing game -- these are identical products to their higher priced Lucerne counterparts, bu...

Re: Coronavirus and masks in stores
I am going to say that I am a little creeped out by seeing customers wandering aimlessly around a store wearing a mask that just seem to be browsing the aisles. I get the point of the masks, but at the same time, feel that stores need to be enforcing a limit on how long people can remain in a store....
