Re: Decomposing Body discovered in column of LA County WinCo Foods

I wonder if this person once worked at that WinCo given the fact he found the stairs and crawl space. It just seems like an odd place to escape to.

Re: Kroger to "explore strategic options" for Turkey Hill brand

I've always wondered when Kroger was going sell Fred Meyer Jewelers. Not really a core asset. It booms during a good economy and craters during recessions. The jewelry division seems to have been closing its mall based stores over the years, but has opened some new stores inside various new build M...

Re: Some Portland Safeway hours restored

Still a far cry from when nearly all supermarkets around here were 24 hour operations though. Does Safeway/Albertsons even have any 24 hour stores now?

WinCo is the only one that really comes to mind as 24 hours in addition to convenience stores.

Albertsons/Rite Aid Merger is off: What's next

From what I read about the cancellation, there were no penalties involved on either side. I do think there's some potential for CVS to take over some of the Northwest Rite Aid stores, as CVS has a rather low store count in the region and is still a relative newcomer to the area. And yes, Rite Aid h...

Albertsons/Rite Aid Merger is off: What's next

Honestly, I am glad this merger was called off. Rite Aid, which let their acquired-from-PayLess stores go for a LONG time, has been doing some nice looking remodels as of late, and their new-build stores I have seen look good. While pricing is still a problem, the store experience has improved consi...

Re: New Sears registers?

They are NEC registers. Sears Hometown has been undergoing a IT transformation for a little bit now which will allow them to lessen their dependence on SHC. The full line and hometown stores still use the same base Linux OS but they have differences in gui. Sears Hometown will be switching to a dif...

Re: Sears/Kmart Death Watch 2018

Snoozy article from Kent's local weekly. Exterior photo shows the tarnished entrance: https://www.kentreporter.com/business/kents-kmart-store-to-close-this-fall/ The article's first line reads "Kmart will soon go kaput in Kent...." I think we have a new name for Kmart, folks. :D In this case, Big K...

Re: Denny's in decline?

I recall that the Denny's in Pendleton OR (which seemed quite busy) had video lottery machines when I was there on a roadtrip a couple of years back. Up here, a lot of the Denny's locations have attached bars which do pull tabs. I rarely see many people in the bars, but then again I'm not generally...

Target store closing in San Bernardino, CA

A single Target store closing announcement:

They are citing "underperforming" as the reason.

Re: Safeway Fire. At 35th and Northern Phoenix

I have no idea what the real estate market is like in Arizona, but if the market has become inflated, that could be a factor here. I do know that was a factor with the Kmart in Santa Rosa, which was not owned by Kmart. In that case, there had already been talk about rebuilding/redeveloping (not nece...
