Re: Lowe's Closing 51 Stores

In my opinion, Home Depot is the superior operator. In my area (Phoenix) Home Depot and Lowe's stores are predominately all new build stores (Home Depot does have at least one former Home Base store but it has been renovated to basically mirror a standard Home Depot). I find that when I go to Lowe's...

Re: Walmart to open a maximum of 10 new stores in FY2020

The Walmart here opened another arena of self checkouts after the remodel. I also noticed they added two more regular checkouts at the garden center. I'm not sure why they did that as typically there is only one line open on that end of the store. The most I've seen is two. Usually the one that's o...

Re: Target closing 6 stores in early 2019

Target Greatland seemed to be designed as a middle between a traditional Target and a Super Target. Target Greatland clearly had a larger footprint, larger clothing area particularly, and as mentioned the larger parking area, entry area, and more checkstands. Back when I saw the first Target Greatl...

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018: Openings and Closings

It seems like the DFW area closures were thinning out of the store base (as there are other either Albertsons, Market Street, or Tom Thumb stores fairly close to the closing stores).

As far as Houston, they might as well just pull the plug at this point.

Re: Walmart to open a maximum of 10 new stores in FY2020

For years I've said Walmart will one day go the way of KMart and Sears. Walmart's problem now is that it's spending a ton of money chasing Amazon's customer base while at the same time neglecting its own. Walmart's specialty is working class, lower middle class, rural, and suburban shoppers. That's...

Re: Walmart to open a maximum of 10 new stores in FY2020

Sounds like they want to say "move fast and break things" but they are actually saying "we don't know what the hell we are doing." These retailers who can't seem to get things straight or get a clear strategy, are just playing into Amazon's hand so well... Maybe Meijer is ready for a major territor...

Walmart to open a maximum of 10 new stores in FY2020

They'll probably close at least as many stores as they open. Are they transforming their business or is this Kmart 2001/2002 all over again? https://www.stltoday.com/business/local/walmart-warns-it-will-test-a-lot-fail-a-lot/article_64f0270b-709a-59c5-8969-b68922706b93.html?fbclid=IwAR0W8WTBwaXYHJsU...

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018: Openings and Closings

It looks like there's a very nice Safeway in Bellevue that was just renovated with the Florida decor not far from this store.

I'm sure that the renovation of the Bellevue store had to play a factor into the decision to close this one.

Re: New Fred Meyer eCommerce site in beta

The banner ad for this the other day looked really fake, but I did a search and the site seems legit. Kroger is starting an eCommerce site for the Fred Meyer division beyond food: https://direct.fredmeyer.com/ In beta currently. Finally bringing back means for Alaska bush orders? 5-10 years ago thi...

Re: Safeway 7th Street and McDowell Road Remodel

Most of the larger Vons stores here in L.A. are set up with packaged bread near the bakery. I assumed that was common in a lot of legacy Safeway stores.. 3rd & Vermont: https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x80c2c764543e099d%3A0xebd2f9233042c85a!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1...
