Sam's Club may be in expand mode in the central valley as they are opening a store in Visalia and are looking at locations in Clovis. Costco is looking for sites in SE Fresno for future expansion as the Sunnyside and Fancher Creek areas are going to see growth in the coming years as will Sanger.

Safeway is looking to expand inland with Save Mart stagnating. They may be looking to build new stores in the Stockton and Modesto areas where bay area residents are transplanting to along with the Sacramento area.

Reading on Reddit that Rite Aid is laying off employees in the stores, it appears the unionized CA Stores are getting hit by this. Not sure what the union is doing... I guess the same thing it has been for the past 4 years when some locals have been working without a contract... at least they colle...

The landlords at the 99 cents only at first/bullard in fresno want them gone ASAP. They have a couple of tenants lined up to take up their site and the former rite aid site with grocery outlet eyeballing the space 99 is at and the library for the former rite aid site which 99 previously objected.

Maybe the DOJ's endgame is for Rite Aid to be no more.

I feel like at some point they will want to make this a blanket $20 minimum wage knowing how powerful the unions are in california. Fast food places near the colleges in fresno are planning to reduce dining room hours after the semester with some closing around 8-9 pm.
