Re: Kroger logo
I have seen a couple of cube signs redone as gas price signs as well. Great use for an old sign!

Re: Glendora Ralphs closing November 21
Kroger has lots of experience in running different stores in different locales so I don't think that is really the reason behind the closing. I would have to agree with the thinking that leases are coming to and end and the renewal is substantially higher. Volume might not be worth the investment of...

Re: Kroger logo
I did not know that Kroger was still installing the cube road signs in the 1980s. Kroger installed cube signs in San Antonio when all those stores opened in the early 80's. They were still in place when those stores closed in the early '90's. I don't know the time frame when they stopped installing...

Re: Haggen to close, liquidate 100 more stores
Not only ongoing as stores, but at a cheaper price than Albertsons/Safeway were selling them for.

Re: Kroger logo
I think there were several reasons for the change to block letters, especially in Texas. 1. Cost of the fixture for the Loewy designed Kroger (with the Loopy K and G), as well as the cost of maintenance on bulb replacement (i.e. many more bulbs of different sizes) as well as the sign face to repair ...

Not surprising they would sue. Bit off more they could chew so blame someone, get some money in a settlement and continue to close stores. Popcorn in the microwave now for part 2

Re: Safeway Admiral Way - West Seattle
I had never seen the older store before it was rebuilt and not sure what year it was. On all my previous visits I was always impressed with this Safeway, stock levels and conditions were always better than what I would expect from Safeway. Prices always seemed high to me in Safeway, but since I only...

Safeway Admiral Way - West Seattle
I had been in this store several times before the Albertson's merger. I was visiting friends this past weekend and went into the store and was shocked at how a pretty well run and merchandise store had gone down hill so fast! The vestibule had 3 or 4 shopping carts in it when I walked in, leaves, di...

Re: Walmart abruptly closes 6 locations.
The Walmart in Livingston Texas was a high volume and rumored to be a very profitable store. I was always puzzled that it did not have a gas station, and noticed shortly before it closed a new Murphy's was being put in the parking lot.

Re: Albertsons buying United Texas
It does seems like they have kept a hands off on United. They have also not consolidated back office as much as one would expect. United still buys for United. Normally buying is the first thing to be moved to headquarters.
