Re: Pavilions #1 Garden Grove
For example, the Kroger Signature store design was unique in its larger footprint, and niceties that were relatively uncommon for stores like Kroger at the time (Starbucks, sushi). However, what ended up happening was that the actual format was replicated across the entire chain once certain aspect...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration
There is also the possibility that the platforms Kroger is running can't handle a large influx of stores or they are using the Harris Teeter platform as Kroger East, just as Fred Meyers runs Kroger West. Is this where Kroger has three senior vice presidents of retail operations each overseeing appr...

Re: HEB hires Mabrie Jackson as public affairs executive for North Texas
Wyatt Food Stores was bought by Kroger in 1958. I have a attached (I hope) a screen shot of a Wyatt ad in the Waco Paper in 1962. The Wyatt logo looks pretty Kroger like. The New Braunfels and San Marcos stores were sold to MegaFoods as part of the closure along with the other San Antonio stores. Bo...

Re: HEB hires Mabrie Jackson as public affairs executive for North Texas
Yes they had stores in those areas. I am thinking they closed in the late 70's. I worked with a person who used to work one of those stores. They were family centers. The San Marcos store and New Braunfels were part of the San Antonio closure. They were both smaller Greenhouses, about 30K in size ra...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
I stand corrected as I was thinking of operational issues and not a union contract for Houston. Kroger has been known to leave in a labor dispute - Baton Rouge, St. Louis and San Antonio are great examples. I can attest to the dry years after restructuring. Money was very tight and was spent under a...

Re: HEB hires Mabrie Jackson as public affairs executive for North Texas
Kroger used to have stores all up and down the IH 35 corridor, from Larado, San Antonio, San Marcos, Austin, Waco to Dallas, as well as the Valley and Corpus. Most were supplied out of Houston. Plans were at one time to build a warehouse in San Antonio to supply those stores but with the sale of the...

Re: Southwest Parkway Kroger (College Station, TX) potentially closing
You rode on the old bascart. They had a basket that raise up and the huge lower deck to put merchandise on. That was when "checker unload" was big. You could really bang you hands if that basket fell on them. The video store was an expansion into I think an old drug store. It was used for ...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
Kroger combined the Dallas and Houston Divisions in name to reduce overhead in the Dallas area. Houston did all the accounting, payroll and all other financial operations for the Dallas division prior to the combination. Most of the buying, real estate, facility etc. was moved to Houston with a smal...

I was in this store last month and it really looked tired. There was activity in the parking lot like a remodel was going to happen and it did not look tied into the shopping center remodel.
It will be interesting to see what happens. This store was a great store in it's heyday.

Re: Kroger to buy Roundy's for $800 million
I have to agree with Store Wander that there is a lot of influence of Fred Meyer in the Kroger operation and visa versa. Having a friend that transferred a few years ago to Fred Meyers said it was shocking how behind in many "backroom" area's they were compared to Kroger and has seen those...
