Re: McDonald's PlayPlace History
Off the top of my head, I know in College Station the Southwest Parkway lost its outdoor playground in a renovation. This was the wooden one I mentioned on Groceteria. Part of the problem was that the store was on a fairly tight outlot and needed the space. Outdoor one in nearby (Highway 21) got rem...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Meanwhile one could make the argument that Kroger's continued growth of large marketplace stores is really a invasion of Target and Walmart's segments. That does add complexity because the feds don't view things that way. So the feds just see conventional supermarket industry players and share, the...

Re: Brookfield: "Death of the mall was a myth"
I have noticed the big home improvement stores are more hesitant to locate in malls in the US. I can think of one Home Depot on the outskirts of a mall and it does well but really is so far it is off property for all intents and purposes. In Canada it is more common to see home improvement stores, ...

Re: Brookfield: "Death of the mall was a myth"
Despite the "we're working past the department stores" talk, there's a lot of things wrong with malls still. Most of the department store replacements aren't real replacements (often not connecting into the mall), unique specialty stores are almost extinct, and despite hopes that some mal...

Based on renderings it looks like it will resemble the El Paso Albertsons built a few years ago.

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
I do not see C&S being involved in any deal to acquire anything but cast offs. They are not a long term operator and I do not see them changing. That is the entire criticism of their involvement in this deal where they are acquiring stores and facilities at basically below liquidation value. Th...

Re: Ahold Delhaize Strategy Day
A "Strategy Day" type open house is not going to announce anything of substance from a transaction perspective, or even anything from a financial or restructuring perspective. These types of calls happen all the time at retailers, they're usually called "investor day" and they a...

Re: Dutch Bros. To Offer Mobile Ordering For The First Time Amid Profits
I can believe Dutch Bros is hurting Starbucks in Texas as their expansion has been breathtakingly fast (about 200 stores since 2021 compared to Starbucks' 1250 since 1994) but there's no way that's putting a noticeable dent on their performance in the bigger picture.
