Re: Grapevine Tom Thumb closing, nearby Albertsons rebranding

In all but name, Pavilions has come to Texas: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Tom+Thumb/@32.8822344,-97.1010638,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipNV_MnL5i00pibR1M7O1zgi46i3gQcNRO-gXdQR!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipNV_MnL5i00pibR1M7O1zgi46i3gQcNRO-gXdQR%3Dw203-h...

Re: Macy's Buyout? Private ownership bid

As far as the Texas (Triangle) stores go , I would divide them into the following categories: Note that this does not include stand-alone Backstage stores or Market by Macy's locations Absolutely Safe (they would be crazy to close these) - Northpark Center - Stonebriar Center - The Galleria (Houston...

Re: Grapevine Tom Thumb closing, nearby Albertsons rebranding

As a practical matter, there really isn't a competing Kroger in the area (not that the feds will necessarily see it that way). The stores to the south on Main St. in Euless and Harwood Rd. in Bedford both serve distinctly different neighborhoods, and residents living off of Hall-Johnson rarely have...

Re: Grapevine Tom Thumb closing, nearby Albertsons rebranding

What is interesting about this is the Kroger units nearby may be far enough away that there will be no need to divest this store. I'm not sure why they are bothering to rebrand the Albertsons at all. So basically this neighborhood was before having 3 competing grocers: Albertsons, Safeway, and Krog...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

This Randalls has struggled with traffic for years, plus it is one of the largest stores in the chain. The recent renovation was likely a last-ditch effort to prop up sales and draw in shoppers, particularly those turned off by the ongoing construction at the HEB across the street. Ultimately, this ...

Grapevine Tom Thumb closing, nearby Albertsons rebranding

Just announced: The Tom Thumb at 4000 William D Tate in Grapevine will be closing in February and a nearby Albertsons at 4000 Glade Road will be converting to the Tom Thumb banner. A representative for Albertsons attributes this closure to an expiring lease. The Tom Thumb in question is located in a...

Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0

The store you are likely thinking of is in Forney, essentially due east of Dallas on 80 prior to it merging with I-20. That area of DFW (Kaufman County) is currently the fastest-growing of anywhere in the country with new residential subdivisions all over the place, and both Tom Thumb and H‑E‑B have...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?

One thing which is unclear based on my reading of the press release: What will the banner for the C&S stores be outside of Mariano’s/QFC territory, along with CA/AZ/CO/WY where C&S will have access to the Albertsons banner. This leaves both the TX/NM/LA and east coast stores as the odd man o...

Re: Race Way, Race Trak, Sold Off

I am local to the DFW market. Over the past several years, RaceTrac has been selling off locations which have either been underperforming or which were old sites that could not be feasibly brought up to brand standards. This first kicked off several years with a block sale of stores to 7 Eleven. Sin...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?

Texas-based El Rancho Supermercado has recently been sold, which Albertsons previously held a 45% stake in. Cross post with the following thread: https://www.retailwatchers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3829 Could this be Albertsons' first step in addressing store overlap and required divestitures if the Krog...
