Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
I can tell you, having worked for Publix, they do not like to take over stores (obviously they do and eventually rebuild). Publix has acquired stores from competitors (Albertson's and Bi-Lo in recent memory), but have not acquired entire chains. Specific stores that are performing well and/or in go...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
I think Kroger's Atlanta Divison has over 180 stores with its districts having 20 stores each.

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
Kroger, despite some slightly unusual moves, still plays a safe game and is probably only splitting the division because it makes more sense on a logistics and local control issue. I am sure they are splitting Dallas and Houston (weren't these two divisions separate divisions back in the 90's anywa...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
Kroger The scarcity of land in developed urban areas may prevent Kroger from moving in with its Marketplace hypermarket stores. Acquiring a present participant that has stores is one idea for expansion into Florida. Kroger's Harris Teeter division has stores approximately 53,000 square feet in size...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
However, I don't think an organic expansion to Austin is the right idea nor do I think an organic expansion to Florida is the right idea. They have little to no shot at even 2nd place marketshare in either market anytime soon and it would take so much capital to get there. Expansion into Florida is...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
Is Kroger presently in Amarillo, Austin, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Laredo, Lubbock, and San Antonio? No, it is not, and it does not have any stores in Oklahoma. Expansion into Oklahoma, northwestern, southern and western Texas is possible and doable. It is either organic expansion throug...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
Those 214 stores made Kroger Southwest the third-largest division in the chain. Only Ralphs and Harris Teeter are larger (besides being separate names, they probably have smaller sub-divisions). Southwest's problem is not that it's growing out, it's growing in. They ditched San Antonio in the early...

Re: The splitting of Kroger Southwest
" Kroger Announces Creation of Two Supermarket Divisions in Texas " Before the division was split, Kroger's Southwest Division had 214 stores. After the split, the Houston Division has 109 stores in the Houston, Texas, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, areas, and the Dallas Division has 105 sto...

Re: Kroger speculated to acquire The Fresh Market
If Albertsons was to acquire Winn-Dixie stores, it wouldn't happen at least not in Florida, for a few years. Remember, not even the remodels at the existing Albertsons stores have happened yet. Albertson's has been participating in Florida for 42 years. Its three remaining stores re-branding to Saf...
