Re: Future of Retail - Amazon Monopoly?

I firmly believe that Target will sell out to Amazon. I believe that would set off a government firestorm of lawsuits and antitrust issues that would be unparalleled in history. That acquisition would simply make Amazon too large and too much of a monopoly. And Target isn't in good enough shape for...

Re: Future of Retail - Amazon Monopoly?

I think it's very telling that Target suddenly is rolling out new displays in electronics showcasing Amazon and Alexa tech. Target had a much publicized breakup with Amazon, in which all Amazon product like Kindle and gift cards were immediately removed from all stores because they were a competitiv...

Re: First Pavilions in San Diego County

Laguna Niguel Vons was converted to Pavilions and the remodel finished in late April, beating this Carmel Valley location. Unlike the first few remodels to the new "World of Difference" decor the new ones all center around adding a Wine Bar, taking a page from all the fully remodeled Gelsons since t...

New Pavilions - Irvine

The Pavilions at Orchard Hill in Irvine (on Portola Pkwy) closed in the Haggen debacle and hasn't been occupied since. Well very quietly they've reacquired the site and the store is reopening this coming Wednesday. First "new" Pavilions I've seen open in quite some time... When this store ...

Re: DFW Tom Thumb/Albertsons/MArket Street Observations

For the new Pavilions package (which I suspect could land in other banners as a premium store) - I'd call it the World of Difference decor package. There is also a new third (fourth?) version of lifestyle showing up. It's the traditional lifestyle without any back lighting, instead the letters are a...

Re: Another New Decor Package at Pavilions

Some of it is very detailed and textured. Other parts are simple prints on wallpaper. All of it is nice. Looks like they already trimmed the fleet of Pavilions down to the highest performers in upscale areas and are now working to reestablish it as a premier brand. More high end merchandise again li...

Another New Decor Package at Pavilions

At Newport Coast and Rancho Santa Margarita a completely new and different remodel package is underway that is unlike anything at either Safeway or Albertsons. Both stores look like they've got a month to go, but so far it looks like a very high end design throughout most of the store. New lighting ...

Re: Pavillions Arcadia

Makes sense they'll keep the name somewhere for trademark purposes. I remember the valley store that had a sign that said "Pavilions by Vons" (I think it was near Encino and closed a few years ago). The cashier said the store name is being phased out though for the reason stated, they don't want thr...

Re: Pavillions Arcadia

Westminster was also converted. They're phasing out the Pavilions brand.
