Re: Amazon Fresh, take 2
I went last weekend to the Amazon Fresh in Paramus, NJ. (It was remarkably terrible and completely empty. There was one cashier with no line.) I'd estimate the majority of the storebrand items are Amazon Fresh, but some are Happy Belly, which is the brand I remember seeing in the past. Is the Amazo...

Re: The Fall of Third Street Promenade
...Parking difficulty is a strong contribution to the isolation of the area... The parking situation was terrible. Even when garage spaces were available, the line to get out of the garages were too damn long. I like to walk, so on visits from San Diego I'd park several blocks north and hoof it. No...

Re: Official: Red Lobster files Chapter 11
Darden has famously degraded its acquisitions. Red Lobster's heyday was under General Mills---Darden sold them because they were an underperformer. They tried saving money by combining RL and Olive Garden kitchens, which makes no sense. Longhorn was much better under its original ownership. Darden'...

Re: Target Lowers Prices on 5,000 Items for the Summer
The bigger problem I see is if you keep throwing $10 off $50, $5 off $25, $5 off $30, $5 off $15, grocery, offers, this makes me think your prices must be high and that is why you are doing this every week... that isn't exactly accurate but their pricing isn't great. Better than Safeway of course, ...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
I highly doubt they have any control over this. There are many major vendors who will not do any business with companies in receivership, even if offered cash up front. This is all a recent development out of 2020. Most retailers started playing games with their vendors under the threat of the pand...

Re: Los Angeles' The Last Bookstore
Indie bookstores are thriving. The idies have survived by emphasizing service and understanding who their customers are. They also have multiple ways to drive traffic---the surviving stores do a lot of author events---DC's Politics and Prose has quite a few of these on C-Span which creates an audie...

Re: Target Lowers Prices on 5,000 Items for the Summer
Target threw another "food and grocery" $5 off $30 coupon. Their food pricing is terrible and I actually see what seem like price increases this week compared to last week... Using the coupon got their prices about down to Wal Mart levels, at best, but I think I still ended up paying more...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
I blame whoever/whatever has made this decision to not restock inventory in the stores properly in the past couple months. I don't know what is causing this (I have my ideas but they're unsubstantiated), but it is unacceptable. Whatever creditor groups who are trying to "preserve" this co...
