Re: Alternative Retail

The problem with many stores in today's outlet malls is that they are often just a regular store with the word "outlet" slapped on the outside with no difference in pricing or quality. Once they lose the concept of "outlet" people shop elsewhere. No. They're a store with cheaper...

Re: Dom's and Foxtrot Closed, Chapter 7 BK

Interesting post-mortem on the bankruptcy. A co-founder was the successful bidder for the assets. The banker took their offer which essentially shutout employees, suppliers, etc. who were planning to sue. https://slate.com/business/2024/05/foxtrot-venture-capital-businesses-bankruptcy-creditors-pay-...

Re: Alternative Retail

I have commented on the collapse and failure of the outlet mall concept, which seems to be dying faster than regular malls but not capturing the attention of the media since they are fewer and further between. The primary cause in my opinion has been a lack of actual first quality product that is j...

Re: Brookfield: "Death of the mall was a myth"

Agreed. For malls to be come relevant, they need to be more than a collection of clothing and jewelry stores. Adding gyms and bowling alleys is great as you said, they usually face outside and are nothing more than a space filler, contributing nothing to the shopping experience. I have noticed the ...

Re: "Schnucks Fresh" stores

THe Columbia EatWell was a long-running Schnucks's for many years and the only super near downtown and the U of M campus. The store probably opened in the 70s and is probably on the small side for them, hence this format. They may have figured that having the flagship state university there, along w...

Re: Ahold Delhaize Strategy Day

I'm with you on all this. There's a relatively new Stop & Shop in Waterbury, where they moved across the street into a closed ShopRite. It honestly looks really good and would be perfect for exactly what you describe (although it doesn't get particularly good reviews online, with complaints ran...

Re: JCPenney Refresh

My local Stockton, CA JCP has been receiving some attention in the form of refreshing the store. The entirety of the first floor has been re-carpeted, including areas where it was removed during the Johnson era, and the registers were consolidated on the side nearest the parking lot. They've also b...

Re: Dutch Bros. To Offer Mobile Ordering For The First Time Amid Profits

This chain is finally offering mobile order and pay amid record profits and growth. Meanwhile Starbucks is falling behind and the former CEO is rebuking Starbucks. https://www.nrn.com/quick-service/dutch-bros-will-offer-mobile-order-and-payment-first-time Kinda helps to post links..... Re: Walmart to close Health Care Clinics

Amazon bought an entire chain of doctor's offices called One Medical. Wall Street wanted Walmart to copy Amazon since Amazon seems to be all into the idea of opening doctor's offices. Amazon is losing money on those clinics and is too afraid to admit it. The company is still pushing the subscriptio...

Re: Walmart to close Health Care Clinics

Only thing I find odd is that this is a very, very rapid "about face" from Walmart. Here is an announcement from just last month about a massive expansion underway for the program. So a hair less than two months from announcing the doubling in size of the program they pull the plug? https...
