Re: EG Group exit from Davenport, IA
I looked up the ownership and it looks like EG sold them to Mountain Express Oil Company. Brew was operating the locations under an operating agreement. Mountain Express filed bankruptcy and the agreements must have been rejected. https://corridorbusiness.com/brew-oil-sinclair-stores-closed-due-to-l...

Re: Sheetz having trouble gaining traction in Detroit
I think Sheetz is more inviting for women for some reason. Maybe it's the decor, or maybe it's because their stores are in the type of areas where women feel safe. I don't know, but I don't think there is a hesitation for women to go inside. I don't care about top tier either. Maybe if I had a $120,...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
In Atlanta, Publix absolutely took share from Kroger when they entered the market... As of 2019, Kroger had 31% market share in Atlanta, making them number one. In a market where they've always had conventional grocery store competition, that has to be pretty close to where they've always been. And...

Re: EG Group exit from Davenport, IA
Probably just a shell company created by EG specifically to spin the properties off. That insulates EG from anything being wrong with the properties like contamination.

Re: Sheetz having trouble gaining traction in Detroit
QuikTrip is a much better operator. Sheetz is definitely a top tier operator but they're no QuikTrip. Or KwikTrip. Sheetz is a great operator. QuikTrip does not impress me. KwikTrip/Star is very impressive. Sheetz will do well in Michigan. My understanding is that the C-Store competition is very we...

Re: Publix in Cincinnati?
At one point Meijer's share was in the mid teens, not sure why they lost share, probably due to Kroger putting up more large stores/marketplace stores. Publix may think if they could pick off 10% market share it would be worth their while. Because Meijer doesn't cover the entire market like the oth...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
Atlanta, Georgia, was thought to be a market Publix would not do well in against Kroger. How has that worked out? Kroger has held its own when it comes to market share Publix has mostly gotten share from the other players. Kroger is still #1 in market share with over 30%. However, given that Publix...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
I find that very impressive that Publix is pulling volumes that are just 25% below Kroger. Kroger Atlanta has a lot of very big over 60k square foot high volume stores (easily over $1 million a week). Publix by contrast seems to run a lot of little 40k square foot type stores, also open shorter hou...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
Kroger being on top in the Atlanta area and Georgia is interesting. It is behind Publix in supermarket market share, and its Kroger Marketplace stores are behind Walmart Supercenter in hypermarket market share. As of 2018: Kroger, which has 150 Georgia stores, dominates with more than 30% of the gr...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
IMHO, Publix is waaay overrated. They've had 20 years to battle Kroger in Atlanta and Kroger is still on top. Don't get me wrong, Publix is good. They're just not as godlike as people build them up to be.
