Re: Macy's Closing More Stores? (Later in 2022 or in 2023?)
Just to tie a few parts of this conversation together, of the three remaining Macy's in the KC area, one was originally a Jacobson's (Town Center Plaza, Leawood) and one was originally a Montgomery Wards (Oak Park Mall, Overland Park). Both became The Jones Store before Macy's. Both of those malls a...

Re: DSW inside of Hy-Vee
Their new location in Springfield, MO that is getting ready to open has signs on the exterior for DSW, Joe Fresh, Wahlburgers, and something called "The W Nail Bar." Not sure what that last one is, but the "W" looks like a Walgreens "W". I almost thought it was partnere...

Re: Publix entering Louisville, KY in 2023
I always figured that northern Mississippi (Tupelo, Oxford, etc) and Memphis would be next as it would be easily accessible from their AL distribution center. Louisville will bring them in competition with both Kroger and Meijer. Very interesting.

Re: "Schnucks Fresh" stores
Personally, I think at least in the Midwest there is a demand for some sort of store like this. Here in Missouri, most small towns have a supermarket that is local or in a small chain, supplied by AWG. That isn't the case everywhere, and even so, many of these stores don't have a very good fresh foo...

Re: Food 4 Less - Arkansas
Back when the Wal-Mart Supercenter opened in Jefferson City, MO in the early 90's (I think 92?), it was one of the first in the chain. I think Washington, MO opened first. Anyway, the stores were serviced by Fleming, and had Fleming store brands, which slowly over time were phased out by "Sam's...

Re: RIP Owen's Market: The Kroger banner never talked about
It's interesting how many banners Kroger operates under within the state of Indiana. I'd say eliminating a few of those isn't a bad move. There's still some stores under the Jay-C banner and the Pay Less banner. I believe they opened one of the stores acquired from Marsh under the Pay Less name, whi...

Re: H-E-B to enter DFW market proper with Plano, Frisco stores
Wow, that will be huge! I'm kind of surprised that they didn't pick some sites in the southwest part of the metro area to be closer to their other stores. By picking the areas they did, they're making quite a big splash, I'd think. I can only imagine how huge those grand openings are going to be, pe...

Re: Hy-Vee: The "Haggen" of the Midwest?
Very interesting article about Hy-Vee. https://progressivegrocer.com/how-hy-vee-plans-grow?utm_source=omeda&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NL_PG+Daily+5&utm_keyword=&oly_enc_id=7465H2024034I5B I continue to be impressed by their willingness to innovate. Their advertising lately has be...

Re: Gerbes Columbia, MO
I completely forgot about Moser's in Columbia. Yes one of those seemed like a former Safeway to me. However it had a sign out by the road that looked like a Gerbes sign so I did get sort of confused also as I recall that one had an exposed ceiling inside so I was not quite positive it was a Safeway...

Re: Gerbes Columbia, MO
Yeah, I forgot about Culinaria. I'd like to go see how that looks now. Sounds like they have rebranded it Schnucks Downtown or something like that. I was painting with a broad brush. In my opinion, I don't feel like Schnucks is too willing to deviate from their typical format, as compared to some ot...
