Re: Supervalu to sell Shop 'n Save

I guess all of the remaining stores are just going to close between now and the end of the year: More than 1,300 Shop 'n Save employees to be laid off when stores close this fall https://www.stltoday.com/business/local/more-than-shop-n-save-employees-to-be-laid-off/article_723f4a46-ac46-5208-8ac1-4b...

Re: Supervalu to sell Shop 'n Save

I agree that Schnucks may have been the only bidder. Dierbergs, the other local operator, wouldn’t want that many stores. Kroger probably doesn’t want to explain to analysts why it would be buying so much real estate given its current Restock plan, and a format that is clearly a fixer-upper. Hy-Vee ...

I live near and shop often at a Gerbes location in Jefferson City, Mo. Currently there are just 7 Gerbes locations still open in Central MO, however it’s been announced that one of them in Columbia, Mo is closing at the end of the year when their lease expires. It’s in an excellent location, however...

Re: First Smiths Marketplace in Las Vegas opened today

What’s the history here? Has Smith’s been in LV for a long time or were they all previously Food 4 Less? Was Ralph’s or Fry’s ever in this market?
I’m surprised it took this long for a Marketplace to get built there with so many in Utah and Arizona.

Re: Kroger closing all Triangle stores (14 total), at least 8 being "sold" to Harris Teeter

So by keeping H-T as a separate subsidiary, they can shut adorn and restart the locations without maintaining the existing union contracts? I’m guessing that is the whole reason they’ve kept H-T at a distance. I’m guessing that is a huge part of the decision to shut these locations down. Now, not al...

Pabst sells Hamms and Stag here in Missouri. I think they do the same with Ranier, Olympia, Stroh’s, Lond Star and Old Style, among others. They’re all contract brewed by other companies.

Re: Kroger May Sell Off Its Convenience Store Chains, Including Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill

I believe the c-stores in the Memphis market were acquired from Schnucks, who may have inherited them from Sessel’s/Albertsons. When Schnucks sold their Memphis stores, the c-stores were rebranded “Kwik Shop” but apparently were really run under the Tom Thumb store division. On a separate note, if y...

Re: Supervalu to sell Shop 'n Save

I think you’re right about Kroger only going after stores with #1 or #2 market positions. But, Kroger’s Central division already drives through and around St. Louis to serve stores on its periphery and the Jay-C division has opened several Ruler stores in the market. When you get the St. Louis paper...

Re: Supervalu to sell Shop 'n Save

Hello. I’ve been reading this forum for some time, just now replying to a post. I live in MO in the central part of the state (Jefferson City). SNS did quite well as they were perceived to be the lowest priced mainstream supermarket in STL, but I’m guessing that Walmart’s super center expansion in t...
