Wendy's

My town used to have two Wendy's (for most of the larger chains this is the case). The one on my end of the town was from the 70s, and closed during 2015. The one on the other end of town was built around 2004 I'm guessing. While most other Wendy's here have remodeled, all this one has gotten is pai...

Re: Restaurants using Coca-Cola "Freestyle" machines

They are not particularly popular in my area. Burger King has them and DQ at one location. I agree on the odd taste from the machines. To me the machines cause traffic issues. First because you typically there's only one Freestyle per location, where most places like McD's will have two soda fountai...

Re: JCPenney struggles

My older Stafford shirts from 2008 breathed better than the newer ones. The latest ones I bought, maybe 1-1/2 or two years ago, weren't the Super Shirt (I don't even think I saw any) but they are very hot and just don't have the details that my older ones from maybe 5 years ago had. It also seems, a...

CVS and volume

Just been thinking about this a while. How does CVS compare to Walgreens as far as sales figures. The CVS stores around here seem to have much smaller selection than Walgreens in the departments, plus the shelves are half height where Walgreens usually has full shelves. Recently I was comparing some...

Re: Montgomery Ward

I know a few years later, but I had a look. Everything looks expensive. Looks like they offer payment terms with their own card. Maybe it's something like Rent A Center or buy here pay here.

It was interesting how some of the items are branded exclusively Montgomery Ward though.

Re: Walmart removing jewelry counters?

The Walmart in my town just finished a remodel, and I'm pretty sure they removed the jewelry counter. There does still seem to be a fairly decent sized selection of jewelry, but the department does not seem to be staffed. As part of the remodel they also moved the fabric department, and the new fabr...

Re: Dollar Tree Buying Family Dollar

I'm not sure when Dollar Tree and Family Dollar started out here but it must have been the 80s. I remember them since I was a kid, sometimes they'd even be in the same plaza. Over here, I've noticed huge growth from Dollar General in the last few years. They've seemed to build stores in every little...

Re: Fast food in supermarkets

I agree on the profit margins and quality being the driving factor. On the Chester Fried chicken, I remember that happening here in the Publix deli in the early 2000s. The fryers behind the counter were branded with the Chester Fried logo, which obviously shows they were using their supplies, but th...

Re: Checkstands

The Walmart here, too had about 25 regular checkout lanes with only about 5 being open. Some of these were just the short express lanes without conveyor belts, that were stacked two deep, so they could fit two checkouts into the space of one regular lane. If I remember right the self checkout area w...

Re: Remodeling a grocery store in November and December

The original Publix (1962 build) closest to my house closed right before Christmas 2016 for demolition and rebuilding. Reopened the following spring if I remember right. The remodel of that store in the late 90s occurred during the summer however. I remember when Winn Dixie remodeled (the only one i...
