Re: 10 Years of RetailWatchers

-Bi-Lo buying Winn Dixie, and subsequently Winn Dixie buying the Sweetbay chain from Hannaford.

-OfficeMax merging with Office Depot

It's certainly been a changing time for retail in the last 10 years, that's for sure.

Kentucky Fried Chicken

KFC isn't a restaurant I usually visit. But a few years ago I had started going again once in a while. Yet the last time I went the management just seemed poor and unprofessional and the chicken didn't taste right at all. So I haven't been back. The location also doesn't seem to do much business and...

Re: Taco Bell not taking card chips?

It seems that the start to accepting CC with chip here started when Taco Bell added the ordering kiosks, if not just before.

Re: Southeastern Grocers: 2019

I have seen BI-LO and Winn-Dixie stores go years without any updates. The only updates I saw with Winn-DIxie were stores closing. A quantity of BI-LO stores in South Carolina have not seen updates in approximately 20 years. Our original Winn Dixie opened in 1983. It got a very minor remodel in the ...

North Sebring Publix remodel

I noticed in the last few weeks that work has been underway on the North Sebring Publix. This store was originally an Albertsons built in 1999. It was one of the stores purchased by Publix in 2008. It was last remodeled in 2013. My memory is fuzzy of what the store looked like when Publix originally...

Re: Taco Bell not taking card chips?

That's true, since I just remembered the older DQ location here, uses the older style card reader terminal behind the counter. They don't even have POS terminals, but use cash registers like a small business. Orders have to be rung up on the register and then the amount entered on the CC terminal.

Taco Bell not taking card chips?

The Taco Bell here for a long time did not take cards with chips, despite being built in 2016. They had the slots on the card reader, but they always had a paper card in them, with a note to "swipe right." I think in the last month or so they finally started taking them. Nowhere else I know of wasn'...

Re: Southeastern Grocers: 2019

As far as the store updates, I don't really understand their logic. The last major Winn Dixie remodeling spree was in 2008-2010 when they had gotten out of the first bankruptcy. I heard they remodeled about half of their stores at that time. Not sure how accurate that is. They were fairly in depth r...

The Pick Up Area Trend

I've been noticing many retailers are starting the pickup area trend. Lowes a while ago put designated parking areas for merchandise pickup and also has a desk right near the front door for this. I stopped at the mall yesterday and noticed even Belk has put up an easel designating one of their outsi...

Re: Americans who love to cook on the decline - how will grocers react?

Ugh, OT, but it sounds like so much retail is suffering from the fact that more and more people want nothing to do with anything these days that doesn't involve their smartphone, or that does requires thinking or work
