Re: Thrifty Rite Aid Branded Stores
Suspect that they haven't yet replaced the "Ice Cream" sign--isn't that a boxed rectangular sign underneath the Thrifty script?

Re: RIP Owen's Market: The Kroger banner never talked about
I've gassed up a few times at the gas station in front of the JayC in Bedford, IN...pretty indistinguishable from any other kiosk-type Kroger gas station (the clerk's inside the kiosk, the sodas etc are in coolers outside).

Re: M&S taking legal action against Aldi UK
Not exactly Gelsons'...the best analogy I can use would be to imagine if Sears in their absolute heyday put food shops into every single one of their stores...but even the doesn't do M&S justice. There's a really good Gourmet article from 45 years ago talking about M&S...they are ubiquitous ...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
not knowing how they're doing their financial allocations, though, I wonder if pulling fulfillment volume out of storefronts lowers the volume and freshness of these stores which leads to a vicious cycle of less-good store operations and on and on. I look at a region like the Grosse Pointes in Michi...

The one in Palm Springs seems very comparable to me to Gordon Food Services' stores in the midwest/Florida...good place to go if you are entertaining and need chafer trays and bulk stuff; if you've got a food truck/church kitchen and need a one stop for big-sized, for instance, chili makings and don...

And in comparison, even in their two Detroit City stores (which have somewhat edited hardlines--fewer electronics, for instance) , Meijer has service meat/fish, has a bake-off bakery with donut case and sliced-to-order deli and hot case, carries both conventional and organic produce (doing enough bu...

I beg your pardon--it WAS indeed Coos Bay that I saw. We were driving north on Hwy 1 and stopped at the Safeway for a restroom...saw the FM (which was the first we'd encountered) and was shocked.

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021
We particularly noted the decrepitude of FM when we stayed in Newport, OR right behind the Fred Meyer---it looked like a bunch of Family Dollar/Dollar Generals all strung up together. Driving up the coast--I didn't see any FM in any of the smaller cities (Astoria, ...) which was as finished looking ...

I'm always dazzled at a wander through a SuperTarget (that's all they've got in metro Kansas City since they entered there so late) but realize it's all showbiz, and that there's very little "there" there...particularly around fresh goods (they do private label dry groceries very well). I ...
