Re: Ridiculous gimmicky Monopoly

It was wild seeing how many tickets the checker had in the till---the register tallies the total which need to go to the customer...first time I was in the checker actually circled the total on the receipt (kinda like they do cash back at Costco).

Re: Wegmans cancels plans for a store in NC

Sounds like they've been working on this location for 4 years, according to the story, and the market has become increasingly competitive (LIDL, Aldi, etc etc) with even more competitors since then.

Re: Ridiculous gimmicky Monopoly

Probably some sort of "stop loss" that they need to purchase---it's an "every card can win; every card can lose" type situation. The number for Albertsons' is 230 million dollars...so proportionally about right.

Re: Ridiculous gimmicky Monopoly

No, there are both instant win paper coupons as well as match and win online prizes supposedly fulfilled to your J4U account. I had both for the water. Agree about the potential lucrativeness (although a 10 cent bottle of water that you have to pay CRV on is not reeeeeally lucrative--TBH I'd value a...

Ridiculous gimmicky Monopoly

Looks like ABS is doing the Monopoly game again for the next two months. For whatever reason, haven't seen a supermarket game program in years...what a mess. So many moving parts---tickets, extra tickets with specific purchases, instant coupons, free coupons, computer entries, second chances, points...

Re: Gerbes Columbia, MO

In the '70s there was a small urban Schnucks in the Mansion House complex---kind of before Laclede's Landing was a "thing" and Mansion House was THE place to live downtown.

Re: Gerbes Columbia, MO

I'd bet that they used Rock Bottom to keep National out of locations back in the '80s...the location I was familiar with at 66/Lindbergh was in the Korvette's shopping center. It was originally when it opened a Food Town (not sure if at opening that was a Schnucks brand, as they had a fully modern l...

Re: Gerbes Columbia, MO

Schnucks' actually has had several alternative concepts over the years with varying success...they have/had Culinaria, which seems like a modernized Straub's, TBH. Earlier, they had a warehouse concept (Rock Bottom) with several locations in the 80s (Sunset Hills at Lindbergh/66 at least, was former...

Re: McDonald's franchisees want a better chicken sandwich

Yes, CFA has a relatively unique franchise model where they recruit couples to own and operate an individual location. They have an unusually low buy-in (i.e. franchise fee) and a relatively high skim, together with the dawn-to-night menu and closed Sundays. The other company doing things similarly ...

Re: Maverik to enter California

I think when the two Murphy Oils split they just kind of dwindled any Spur left (kinda like so many other oil brands from the past...DX, Deep Rock, Kerr McGee, Champlin, Total, Vickers, APCO, Lion, etc etc etc)
