Re: Wegmans Woes in North Carolina

One of the articles about Ballantyne mentioned in a buried lede that Wegmans' planned store in Holly Springs is once again a go for a 2027 opening. I wonder if they've given up their rights to the store they backed out of inside Fenton in (East) Cary. I know they were looking at having Publix take o...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

> There was one Shop Rite store on Cherry Hill Road near the Calverton neighborhood in PG County. That plaza is barely in Montgomery County, not PG. It did well early on, at least, but they needed volume to get anything done and that you didn't see them go after any of the Shoppers closures spoke vo...

Re: Harris Teeter hiring in Philadelphia

Might be because of brand recognition for those who go down to the Delaware/Maryland beaches?

Might also be because of wanting to finish the job that Ruddick-era HT wanted to do by expanding to Philly even though that would take a DC somewhere in NoVA/MD to properly accomplish.

Wegmans to close Natick, MA location

I think this would be their first closure outside of their typical territory of Western NY.

Re: Giant Eagle loses #1 Share in Pittsburgh- Wal Mart now #1

Hasn't Geagle done everything they could to keep Wegmans and Meijer out, often playing the "non-union chains are bad" card to get their way? Also, in spite of Erie and Frederick, MD existing, weren't there grumbles of a non-compete between the two to keep Geagle from entering NYS? Also, ev...

Re: Harris Teeter/Kroger integration

As Kroger-Albertsons talks swirl, Kroger integration continues at Harris Teeter: seems as if at least one store is getting a Murray's cheese shop (Kroger subsidiary). I do not know if this is chainwide, or how far the branding will go. That was my post in one of the Discords and the location in que...

Re: Wegmans Woes in North Carolina

Wegman's may in their effort to fit into more urban areas and cutting prototypes as a result, may be doing something that is impacting their image. I have heard of some locations opening without custom sandwiches, for instance. Yet this is a chain that is known for its custom sandwiches. How hard i...

Re: Wegmans to open first store in Connecticut

Looking at their distribution of stores, I'm surprised they didn't open in CT earlier. The Hartford area would have made sense. I was there last fall but didn't have time to check-out Stew Leonard's which seems to have a broader appeal than Wegman's--they're on the Berlin Turnpike which has had lar...

Re: Wegmans Woes in North Carolina

The Walter Reed site was never a definite and the developer later admitted that they had raised the possibility as a hypothetical. Basically, it was a way to draw support for their other plans. When Wegman's entered the market, there were plenty of Whole Foods, Trader Joe's was established and expa...

Re: Wegmans Woes in North Carolina

Much of the space that's missing from newer stores seems to be the seating which often wasn't being used much pre-COVID. Some stores were always planned to be smaller---like the long stalled DC location, which will open soon. Plans for a store in DC proper have been discussed for a decade and it wa...
