Re: Two Harris Teeters in Charlotte closing (one temporary, one permanent)
The Park Road store has been there since the center opened in 1956. It may be the only still-open location that made the full Colonial Stores > Big Star > Harris-Teeter transition, and the awkward expansions over the years are noticeable.

Re: Kroger ends free publication racks chainwide
Harris Teeter has them but it tends mainly to be real estate and seniors publications rather than the alt-weeklies.

Re: Is the end near at Sears?
Clemmons NC (which is on the closing list) yesterday. I hadn't been in this store in about ten years. My favorite is the "patient consultation area" in the pharmacy, which is closed on evenings weekends, of course. But hey, they're still hiring...

Re: Wendy's Ordering Kiosks
I did not visit a Wendy's on my most recent trip to Canada, but almost every McDonald's I walked into had the kiosks. I saw a few people using them but they were by no means mobbed.

Re: Wendy's Ordering Kiosks
Arby's did this in Bay Area locations in the early/mid 1990s. It didn't last, but the touch-screen technology was not as ubiquitous (and therefore was probably off-putting fro some) at the time.

Re: What is going on with FYE?
I've been in several non-mall locations in the Southeast, most of which were pretty large and very oriented toward used media. The have a nice, relatively new store in Virginia Beach that seems to get good traffic. They also own the Manifest Disks store in Charlotte (a former Winn-Dixie) and I belie...

Re: Save Mart (Stockton) Fire
A few readers might not be aware that the Stockton Save Mart stores are not connected with the big chain in the Central Valley that also owns the Lucky stores in the Bay Area. This is a different (local) chain of about three stores. The bigger chain operates in Stockton as S-Mart Foods (or at least ...

North Carolina Piedmont Triad: Majors: Harris-Teeter (upscale), Food Lion (mid-range with scattered Bottom Dollar "warehouse" locations), Lowes Foods (mid-range but wants to be upscale), Wal-Mart Supercenter Niche Players: The Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Compare Foods (Hispanic) I probably...

Re: FedEx Kinko's/FedEx Office
Apparently, the changeover has finally begun. I read an article somewhere a few weeks back that said some west coast stores had been rebranded, and while in Florida last week, I saw firsthand that the Tampa Bay area stores had been re-signed. This seems like a big waste for a chain that I'd be surpr...
