Re: Raleys- Electronic Payment Data Compromised

There are various platforms that can be used on the different hardware types. Raleys and Save Mart both are on NCR hardware and NCR platforms. Target has mostly NCR software but some older IBM software still in place and is on its own platform. same for Wal Mart, it is a mix of hardwares on a compan...

Re: Costco Eliminates Self-Checkout

Funny, the CVS Stores I have visited in San Francisco have been very slow as far as customer count goes. I went to one in the financial district that oddly did not have self checkouts, but the others I've been in all do have self checkout. Actually, I am not sure if the CVS on California/Hyde had se...

Raleys- Electronic Payment Data Compromised

http://www.sacbee.com/2013/06/07/5478092/raleys-suspects-its-computers.html This seems to be a much better or at least more polished press reply to this issue than when Save Mart had a similar issue and basically just told people to "close their accounts" but it took them days to even come...

Re: AmazonFresh on the way to LA and SF?

That, and, generally, the type of customer that would be a target market for online grocery, is not the typical Wal Mart shopper. Wal Mart is getting backed into a corner due to its poor reputation. I read an article yesterday that they are looking to expand the neighborhood markets but in markets w...

Re: AmazonFresh on the way to LA and SF?

I'd say this will hurt Safeway, the only other one selling online, but will it? Will they have the fresh offerings of Safeway? Will they deliver the products into your apartment/home/business like Safeway does? Will they follow the delivery windows as well as Safeway does? I don't really see this ch...

Re: Pros Ranch Markets- Bankrupt

Reorganization. This is so, so odd. Their stores, as of six months ago, did not look like they were in any trouble, at least in Phoenix... clean, well stocked, well staffed, very busy, excellent quality on in-store made bakery and hot food, prices ranged from good to bad. Might be a good opportunity...

Re: Albertsons Officially Reunited!

I was at Jewel a few weeks ago and think the pricing has been improved remarkably across the board at certain locations, and on staples like milk, bread, and such at all locations... still a lot of other issues, though. Service, quality, promotions... I was not happy with Jewel. Awful quality and se...

Re: Albertsons is now a "market"?

I read an article that Cerberus is looking to acquire 6 other small chains. What? On top of this Supervalu stuff? I would suggest Cerberus fix what it has before buying anything else. What it has, is in need of some serious, serious repairs. I am trying to figure out the real estate arrangement betw...

Pros Ranch Markets- Bankrupt

I am shocked. They sold their 4 CA Stores in 2010 but not long after opened 4 brand new stores elsewhere. It also appears they were subject to an immigration raid and had to let go of 300 employees, about 12% of their staff at the time. I can see how that may have been a problem but shouldn't have b...

Re: Rite Aid Converts Buffalo Stores To Wellness Format

For some reason, Rite Aid has far fewer 24 hour stores in NorCal than other regions. I wonder if it has something to do with the terms of their labor agreement in that region for overnight shifts combined with that a lot of parts of NorCal are just rather "quiet" in the middle of the night...
