Re: Save Mart self-checkouts
Food Maxx had self checkouts a few years before the Albertsons buy, in the stores formerly operated by Fleming. Those self checkouts were the U-Scan machines; those stores also had IBM software platform registers. Save Mart kept those systems for a while after rebranding the stores from Food 4 Less ...

Re: O'Reilly-fication of CSK
I have noticed similar with their former CSK Stores in Nevada. Same lousy service as CSK and same high prices. The few private label items yes are cheaper than what CSK offered but you can find similar items elsewhere for less money, so what is the point? I do think they are doing a little bit bette...

Re: Another Food Maxx conversion. Sacramento
I went to that store for the first time a few months ago. Traffic seemed better than the average Save Mart. I am a bit surprised it was unprofitable but given that the majority of Save Mart's stores are unprofitable it should not be surprising. The store had a very major remodel and expansion in the...

Re: Rite Aid Converts Buffalo Stores To Wellness Format
Rite Aid has a new website as of a few months ago and I gave their store locator a shot tonight. It looks like they have one 24 hour store in Hillsboro and one in Milwaukie. I think there is only one 24 hour store left in all of Northern California in Sacramento. I found an odd set up in Long Beach,...

Re: Circle K branding removed (hastily?) from 76 stations
There are a number of franchised Circle Ks around Sacramento run by various people. Mostly Tooele Oil and Edward Marzel Enterprises whoever that is. There are also a few Circle Ks corporate operated by Couche Tard: Sunrise/Antelope Citrus Heights Sunrise/Cirby Roseville Auburn/Hemlock Sacramento Man...

Re: New Skippers location
They had one in Reno and one in Sparks, NV in the late 80's or early 90's. I think I've seen their buildings in California. Something along Gray Ave. in Yuba City comes to mind immediately. Fast seafood seems to be tough out west. It isn't easy to find a freestanding Long John Silvers in Nevada or C...

Re: Safeway Store Computer Failure
Wal Mart has not been kind to a lot of those small town Arizona Safeway Stores, and their stores in Phoenix and surrounding are for the most part doing okay at best; there are a few good performers but if you compare their traffic to nearby Frys, they are running with significantly less volume. Many...

Re: Pavilions West Los Angeles Closes
Is Safeway having trouble getting approval to demolish and rebuild the Vons? Safeway has a lot of projects going in the bay area right now. And why not? The competition, Raleys and Save Mart, is doing nothing. Safeway has a wide open field to do whatever they want. It just takes so many years to get...

Re: Safeway Store Computer Failure
Safeway really doesn't do very well... they do well in California due to limited competition. OR/WA they seem to do okay, though nothing like CA. They've lost tons of marketshare in OR/WA in the past decade, and you should see their stores in AZ/CO/NV; dead. They have pockets of success scattered ar...
