Re: Pavilions West Los Angeles Closes

Given that Safeway claims (to the investment community) that they are such an upscale operator, it is strange they could not get this store to work with a mix that was "gourmet enough." Of course in reality they aren't upscale at all but they say they are upscale and man do they ever price...

Re: Safeway Store Computer Failure

This is no Kroger. Yet they are creaming Save Mart. Why? Competitors in every other market cream them... yet Save Mart, despite a good store count and multiple formats, and a lot of really good employees in the stores, can't touch them. Also, Save Mart in Reno has drastically increased prices on num...

Re: Kroger using infrared cameras

This has been in place at Smiths in my market for a couple years now. They have the sensors throughout the stores that track customer movement and somehow predict the flow of customers to the checkout line. When the systems were first installed they didn't seem too accurate but over time as they hav...

Re: Top Foods being phased out in favor of Haggen

Haggen is busy with things. They are closing or maybe have already closed the Federal Way Top. This should be no surprise as there is a Wal Mart Supercenter basically adjacent. I thought I had photos of that Top, but it does not look like I do. I was in there quite a few times and customer count was...

Albertsons Gas Stations

I was in Hillsboro, OR today on Cornell Rd. and noticed the Albertsons still has a gas station and attached convenience store under the Albertsons Express brand. I stopped and it is indeed still being operated by Albertsons. I thought Supervalu sold all of its gas stations, but this is now the secon...

Re: Tesco Officially Giving Up On Fresh & Easy

Classless final ad campaign. One of the most low end ad campaigns I've ever seen. Borderline disgusting, actually. I'd like to see the format survive; I think it has potential in limited niche locations and in the future may have potential in more locations... but with as messed up as it is, with as...

Re: Circle K branding removed (hastily?) from 76 stations

Yes, http://www.pcandf.com sold some number of sites scattered across its base to 7-11 a year or two ago. I have found sites sold in CA, OR, and WA. I didn't find any in CO, but I am guessing they sold some there too. Last I checked, the sold sites still show up on their store locator. http://www.pc...

Re: Circle K branding removed (hastily?) from 76 stations

The sites in question are owned and operated by http://www.pcandf.com . These used to be corporate owned stations by Conoco. These were the stations retained by Conoco when they sold Circle K to Couche Tard. I was in a few of them in Northern California just over a week ago. A hasty separation is an...

Re: Another Ralphs Closure: Moreno Valley

I guess I didn't think it was that bad. I know the town doesn't have the best reputation... I went into the Albertsons, the Ralphs, and a Circle K. The CK was near the Albertsons, obviously a corporate location that had since been franchised and was in a bit rough shape.

Another Ralphs Closure: Moreno Valley

I see the Moreno Valley Ralphs on Sunnymead is closing. The news article was interesting: they tried to close the store in 1998 but it was kept open due to community complaints. The inside of the store was probably last updated in the early 1990's, which makes sense given the above. What is more int...
