It says they cut out 26 General Merchandise categories entirely.
So much for the "combo stores."

Re: Raleys and Layoffs
I think someone may buy but I don't think it'll be Kroger.

Raleys and Layoffs
Raleys laid off 150 of 600 HQ workers yesterday and last week announced cuts of 5 of 10 executives (COO, Chief Counsel, Chief Marketing, Chief HR, and some other one).

Re: Rite Aid's Future
When Rite Aid was liquidating its Las Vegas Stores, I just so happened to be in Las Vegas, and noticed they painted over or covered all signage relating to "Pharmacy" as they were conducting the liquidation sales (the stores were open). I also noticed a situation like you described on a ne...

Re: Rite Aid's Future
Rite Aid is a peculiar case because the stores ARE profitable. The company loses tons of money because they don't make enough profit to pay the cost to service their debt. I would venture a guess the west coast is far more profitable for Rite Aid than we would imagine but that is just a guess. As fa...

Re: Rite Aid's Future
Supervalu is in no position to take anything over. The only thing going on there is store closures, stores being sold in odd random groups, and other things that clearly show they are in trouble. With the way SVU runs things, I'm not sure it would be any better than Rite Aid. I guess SVU could get c...

Re: Rite Aid's Future
Although I think Rite Aid is dead chain walking at this point (yeah,I've given up on them), SuperValu doesn't seem to be in the position to buy anything. SuperValu's operating results are terrible, they are selling stuff off right and left (it seems anything that someone wants to buy is for sale), a...

Re: Supervalu Exiting the Cincinnati Market
I haven't observed much of Nash Finish beyond their Avanza disasters in Denver and their bang up job supplying the Super Kmarts. I did go into some Nash Finish supplied independents around Chicago and found them to be the worst of any independents I visited in that area in terms of mix and pricing o...

Re: Big Kmart Remodels
Yes, they have remodeled a few stores around NorCal like you describe. This is the Sears low budget remodel to a Kmart Store. Paint the walls orange and brown and put up new cheap looking orange and brown department signs. This is the worst looking Kmart interior I have ever seen. Not all stores are...

Re: Supervalu Exiting the Cincinnati Market
Whatever inept virus was infecting the old Albertsons chain, has spread over to SuperValu and the downware spiral continues and seems to be infecting their original operations as well as the former Albertsons operations. Also it appears things like Jewel, which Albertsons basically left alone, are e...
