Re: Nordstrom going to Private Equity?
They've probably hit a tipping point with the Rack stores where they can't add much more made-for-outlet stuff, although they are more interesting to visit than Marshall's. The problem for all these places is that outside of the bubble that occurred around COVID because of bottlenecks, there is les...

Re: Store Evacuations
I am surprised by the lack of PA systems. Even if the PA system is for emergency use only, it should be present. I have concerns about the health effects of some stores where the employees wear headsets all day and talk to each other via these headsets. Radiation and such concerns. I know we all ha...

Re: Kroger will also sell Haggen banner to C&S
The Haggen name simply does not mean what it once did. The stores would be better off rebranding. Exactly. Bring on Piggly Wiggly. At least the name will reflect the kind of experience C&S knows how to provide. I don't know. I guess if 10 of the "Haggen" stores are going to be diveste...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
Odd, I was told last week they'd be open Monday for fixture sales, but that could be incorrect info. I'm not sure what the deal is with the liquidator merchandise. I'm guessing it was low GM stock; they seemed to have plenty of food backstock, but the GM was the bulk of obvious liquidator merchandi...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing
I think the liquidation has been very successful. Many of the SoCal stores have only general merchandise remaining, with everything left marked 80% off. I don’t think the general merchandise was ever a hit…. 50-80% off sales were fairly common. This stuff was added in the last few years - high marg...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Lakewood, et al. have always had a large Orthodox community. I've had a number of friends and colleagues from around there. Most of their families came to that area because of an Orthodox "back to the land" movement that started in the Bronx and Brooklyn in the early 20th century and more...

Re: Kroger surpasses H-E-B and Walmart for #1 market share in Houston
I have to back pesudo3d up on this. The local rags have already paraded around this data and will likely have some trickle-down influence. Target has also built some large stores like Katy and New Caney, which have been lauded as being "huge" when, in reality, they're smaller than our exi...

Re: Red Lobster Considering Bankruptcy Filing
I tried a chain called Sharky's. The menu looked a lot like Baja Fresh, salsa bar seemed bigger and better, had 3 types of iced tea, interior atmosphere was much better than Baja Fresh. Employees were exceedingly friendly, location was very clean. Marketing up about Organic ingredients etc. I was ve...

Re: Advance Auto already closing CA stores?
Must have happened before I got here, and that would be before they got most of these Pep Boys units converted. I thought the Reno Car Quest (Rock Blvd.) had Advance branding for a brief time period around 2018-2019 range, but either I imagined it or it never did. So I wonder how long this closed s...
