Re: Target to close Chandler, AZ store
Target is usually far more deliberate than any other retailer about store closings; they will run a store until it literally hasn't made any money in years. I doubt the data breach has anything to do with this closure. It's too soon. And you'd see a large wave of closings or store sales. We haven't ...

Brookshire Brothers buys 25 store retailer
According to Chain Store Age today, Lufkin, TX based Brookshire Brothers (not to be confused with Tyler-based Brookshire Grocery, but more about that later) has purchased David's Supermarkets, based in Grandview, TX. David's operates 25 stores along the I-35 corridor south and east of Dallas/Fort Wo...

Too many Dollar stores?
In my neck of the woods in Lafayette, Louisiana, one of our local councilmen has decided that there are too many Dollar stores in our town, and he's ready to do something about it: http://www.katc.com/news/councilman-are-30-dollar-stores-too-many-/ (A note here; our counties are called parishes, and...

Re: Bend Sears store closing
Storewanderer, at least one of the other Portland-area Neighborhood Markets also moved into a vacant space. That surprised me, also -- Walmart has been so rigid in only wanting to operate in "custom" buildings historically. Not completely true. Of the stores I've seen, at least 5 of the N...

Re: Bend Sears store closing
Sears and Kmart have been making illogical decisions for years. I believe that the true masterminds of the absurd decisions are with the former Kmart management that decided to buy Sears in the first place. It was Kmart that bought Sears and took over the Sears name. The people in charge are the sa...

Re: Albertsons buying United Texas
What's interesting is that the Albertsons, LLC division is buying United Texas and not the New Albertsons Inc. division. Not to me, so much. Albertsons LLC is right next door in Dallas/Fort Worth. To me, they wanted United for Market Street. The LLC is the parent; it bought back New Albertsons. I f...

Albertsons buying United Texas
Looks like Albertsons isn't doing too bad. They're back in acquisition mode: http://lubbockonline.com/filed-online/2013-09-09/albertsons-acquire-united-family-stores-buyout-details-be-released-6-pm#.Ui5mAz9Z160 It also looks like they'll handle this one differently, leaving management alone with the...

Re: Home Depot signage changes?
I believe they are being phased out. The store in Lafayette, LA (on the south side of town, the north side store is newer) had the sign that said Louisiana's Home Improvement Warehouse, but it's now gone.

Re: Renovated Albertsons in Phoenix
Three of the four stores just got this décor package in Lafayette, LA. It's much more modern and less cluttered than what these stores had. My only complaint about it is that they moved the ENTIRE grocery section over by the produce in the three stores they did this remodel in. You go through all th...

Re: Grocery chains in your area
A couple of minor updates here: In Lafayette, Rouses Markets has opened two stores; one was a completely new build just south of town in Youngsville (which is a very nice store) and another replaced a store built by Weingarten in the late 70's that had last been a nightclub. Also, Albertsons closed ...
