Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
The only Food 4 Less I have been in was in Chicago, and it was pretty much a warehouse format. They had the wall of value but you did not have to walk through it and I think a lot of stores are getting away from that. HEB used to make you walk through produce to get into the store (literally a &quo...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
In those towns the market share should be under what could concern the FTC. Where the problem might be is towns like Palestine with just a Kroger and Brookshire. The Brookshire there always looks empty and has a very high price feel to it and is a nice looking store. The Kroger is off the beaten pa...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
From Supermarket News: A combination with Brookshire would boost Kroger’s share of the Dallas market from 12.8% to 17%, while increasing share in Tyler-Longview Texas from 5.5% to 26.7% and from 5% to 24.6% in Shreveport, La. Keep in mind of these markets: Tyler-Longview: 1 Kroger store (2 if you co...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
I wonder if Brookshire Brothers has any interest in reuniting the company and purchasing the stores. They have been pretty mum only to say that the sale of Brookshires would not effect them in any way. They would be most likely to carry on the tradition. As I recall based on their stories, the divo...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
I've attached a store-by-store comparison of what would conflict, and what would be safe. In my searches, HEB only has about 4 stores around D/FW. Most likely, all would have to be shed, or its corresponding BGC store would have to be shed. Albertsons would take the biggest hit, as each of the 21 st...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
If they are that concerned about their "heritage" they should not be selling. With the sole exception of Publix all the other interested parties have operations and infrastructure in Texas and might be hard pressed to keep the full facility in Tyler open, and once the deal was done could ...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
I doubt Kroger would purchase just to have the prestige of owning it. It would have to be an income producer and pay it's own way for them to look at it. It would give them more of a rural market, something that the Dallas KMA always had (Longview, Palestine, Nacogdoches, Marshall, Paris). Alex was...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
In one of the articles I read today it said they are even considering an auction of stores. Are they having financial problems? I don't know much about that chain. Not to my knowledge, but they are a very private company. Speculation is that the Brookshire family is not comfortable living in the sh...

Re: Brookshire Grocery for sale
Let's put it this way: Publix would have the best chance with these stores. Kroger has direct competition with Brookshire in Longview, Marshall, Paris, Palestine and around Dallas in Texas, and Shreveport and Alexandria in Louisiana. Albertsons has direct contact with stores in Longview and around D...
