Brookshire Grocery for sale

I'm posting this in the Non Region-Specific because BGC straddles Southeast and Southwest. A posting on Supermarket News states that the company has retained JPMorganChase as a financial advisor to sell or auction off the company. Based on various postings and other stories, Albertsons, Kroger and (...

Re: Kroger logo

The cube in Henderson was more than likely a recycled sign. As an additional case in point; Longview once had two stores, the Family Center that's still open as a Signature store on W. Marshall, and a smaller acquisition on S. Mobberly that was redone like a Superstore. The cube sign from that stor...

Re: Kroger logo

I did not know that Kroger was still installing the cube road signs in the 1980s. As this was a very hasty purchase, it may very well have been a recycled sign. Safeway announced about a month before leaving Dallas that these stores were up for sale. There's no way they could have not had this one ...

Re: Kroger logo

Here's one that will surely confuse you all: krhenderson.jpg Henderson, TX This is a Kroger store in Henderson, TX. It's now about 35 years old, and didn't start life as a Kroger. It has been Kroger now for about 28 years. Kroger purchased it and several other 'strategic' locations when Safeway pull...

Re: Signs of trouble at Target?

I don't think Wal Mart operates any of its own food service areas anymore, except for the cafe attached to the museum in Bentonville? Not all of the Walmart Subway and McDonald's locations are subleased. Some (actually, a good deal) are run by Walmart itself. They don't operate foodservice in every...

Re: CVS to purchase Target Pharmacy & Clinic operations

So does that mean they'll feature CVS store-branded products alongside (or in lieu of) Target-branded products? Or is this just a "behind-the-scenes" type thing where there won't be any indication that CVS is running the operation and it will look like does now? The indications thus far (...

Changing of the Guard at Walmart

At their annual Shareholder Meeting today, Walmart announced that Rob Walton would step down as Chairman of the Board, effective at COB today, and that his son-in-law, Greg Penner, who they named as Vice Chairman just a year ago, would step into his spot. This marks only the second time someone name...

Re: Clearwater, FL Albertsons Closing May 28

Sidney Hopper is the president of the Houston division. Apparently, Houston and Dallas (which is named the Southern divison) are two separate divisions with the Houston division taking Austin, Houston, the southern Louisiana ,and Florida stores where the Dallas (Southern) division controls most of ...

Re: Total count of closing Albertsons / Safeway stores

While Albertsons may not have officially announced it, they're closing the 'new' store in Mandeville, LA that they had originally purchased in the Jitney Jungle debacle, then sold it to Sav-A-Center with the New Orleans stores, then re-opened it when Rouses declined it (due to other stores closer by...

Re: Clearwater, FL Albertsons Closing May 28

Being that Albertsons' next closest stores to these four are in Louisiana, it has to be costing them a small fortune to run these stores. Initially, I thought the remaining four were in Pensacola, but I was wrong. That would have made sense. No, they're further south, and geographically separated. T...
