Re: JCPenney announces closures of 130-140 stores
One interesting suspected store closure to mention is a fairly new JCPenney in the Willow Grove Park Mall in Willow Grove, PA. This store opened back in 2012 (former 3-level Strawbridge's, was supposed to become a Boscov's until they ran into financial difficulty and it never opened. JCPenney took 2...

Re: HHGregg looking at strategic alternatives
Another comment to add just to say 'not surprised'. They've been in the Philadelphia area for several years now (some in old Circuit City stores, some in other closed up stores like CompUSA) and I have had no reason to venture into one. (Although to be fair, I've probably only been in a Best Buy twi...

Re: Walmart and 24 hour stores
Walmart used to install drive thru tubes for some of their pharmacies a few years ago, but they have since gone away from that. Prescriptions take even longer at the drive thru since the tube system is complicated and items must be sent through. Walmart discovered that they did more sales if people...

Re: Kroger Enters New York By Buying Murray's Cheese
I guess it makes sense, since they had already been featuring their products in a number of the Kroger locations, but it is a bit separated from any other Kroger area. Unless they might have thoughts on other things in that area? Kroger has owned the Turkey Hill Dairy (and the associated mini-mart ...

Re: Safeway adding IBM/Toshiba self checkout
I find it odd that Safeway is still messing with self-checkouts, when other divisions (Acme mainly, I'm not sure about other Albertsons divisions) are ditching them as soon as they remodel a store, and it's leading to tons of complaints about checkouts, as the manned express lanes that replaced them...

Re: Gateway Fred Meyer security issues
My local Walmart has recently small cameras/TV screens in their HBA aisles that turn on (and presumably start recording) when triggered. This is also one of the only Walmart stores I know that doesn't have self-checkouts.

Re: Whole Foods closing Davis, CA
Even Aldi has plans to start selling organic foods and prepared fresh foods. That chain is going to remodel stores with larger windows, natural light, taller ceilings, and nicer upscale decor. Aldi may be going after a Fresh and Easy style of store. Hopefully the prices will be much better. Going O...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
The one thing they do have is their deals each week. CVS with the Extrabucks, Rite Aid with the Plenti Points and Walgreens with Register Rewards & their own points program. And sometimes even just "specials" - for instance Walgreens offers a bottle of honey (28 oz., was 32 oz. at one...

Re: Save-a-Lot down for the count in California
I wonder why these discount grocers don't do well in California (as I've heard Aldi isn't where it should be out there either). Too much competition from the international grocery stores/produce stands?

Re: Target to close 11 stores before year end
My first visit to a SuperTarget this past week when I was in South Florida (Boynton Beach specifically) was pretty unimpressive to say the least. Maybe they were just super busy earlier in the day (doubt it), but they shelves were very poorly stocked, especially in the fresh food areas (almost empty...
