Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
I think Walgreens will do what is necessary to get the merger to close. They have various options; spin the divested stores off into a separate company, give them to Albertsons (I am positive they would love to take the stores, especially given they just got money from the State of Idaho to add 300...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
Well, a story released today says that Kroger is not interested in buying the stores Walgreens has to divest. Apparently Kroger showed interest, except it seems like they only wanted the stores for the Pharmacy records, not to actually operate freestanding stores. https://consumerist.com/2016/10/19/...

Re: What is going on with FYE?
We probably hear a bit more about the chain, as they were founded and have HQ here in Albany (NY). Over time, as they acquired other chains they seemed to eventually change everything to the FYE branding, losing that differentiation, but maybe now they are bringing it back by having more stuff in t...

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers
Anyone thinks that Shoppers may be planning a return to its' roots? The mid-2000s package from when SuperValu tried to make Shoppers more luxury is near extinction (surprisingly...), and its' later counterpart is starting to disappear too. Simply described, it's the more basic look of the SuperValu...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
Walmart also doesn't do drive-through pharmacies, they're usually tucked somewhere within the store. I wonder if that helps them stay profitable by forcing the customer to visit the store inside. Not true.....a Walmart in a town close to me opened earlier this year and it has a drive thru Pharmacy....

Re: JCPenney to resume appliance sales
. But they did have GE, LG, and Samsung. GE was the only one of the three that I know for sure offers at least some U.S. made appliances (Samsung and LG are Korean companies) While LG and Samsung are popular brands, there are folks like myself that lean toward American made on larger purchases. GE'...

Re: What about Shaw's?
Acme seems to be the comeback kid. Being written off for years, it seems to have come back. When I went to Acme, I did not think it was so bad. I was there when Safeway was closing Dominicks. To me, Acme seemed like a standard Albertsons. The stores were well stocked, clean, high priced, but did no...

Re: Sears borrows $300 million from CEO
Not to start any rumors, but this odd offer popped up on a deal website for purchasing shoes at Sears. (it's for an offer of $25 back in points when you spend $25), but anyway, it's only valid at the stores on this list and the pdf is oddly named 'Liquidity_Details.pdf' (as in liquidation?). Might b...

Re: Sears Perpheral Brands
They have been trying to sell off the auto center business for a few years now, but there doesn't seem to be much interest (I mean, why would anyone want to buy a bunch of garages on a mall property that probably aren't doing so hot to begin with?). Sears is still putting some money into the brands ...
