Trader Joe's is the Aldi of gourmet grocery stores...literally.
I did a blog post about them when they first arrived here that includes some history information and comments on some of their food. Link below...

Re: Vancouver, WA Sudden Walgreens closure?
Walgreen's has been moving out of, and away from, strip malls for some time now, preferring standalone locations on high visibility corners. It's not unheard of for them to simply close a store instead of replacing it if they don't feel the new store will be worth the bother. The haphazard entry of ...

Re: Safeway Standalone Drug Store
Yeah, this is a perfectly normal practice. That they're keeping the location for now is unusual, but not surprising given the circumstance. In the Midwest, Hy-Vee is constantly buying small drug stores, closing them, and transferring the records (and often, the employed pharmacists) to neighboring H...

Re: Advice please: Dallas/Fort Worth area supermarkets
You can see an actual HEB store as well in Burleson on the southwest side of the metro. It's at 165 NW John Jones Dr. From I-35W, take Exit 36 (Hwy 174) and head southwest to SE John Jones Dr. You'll be able to see it on the right from Hwy 174. It's a big brand new store. I was surprised to see it w...

Re: Recent Fred Meyer remodels
The new (well...about a year and a half old) Smith's Marketplace in Lehi, UT (which is a Fred Meyer in all but name) still had a separate space for the electronics department up front, just like they'd been doing it for years.
Your example is the first I've heard of them doing this.

Re: The slow death of Quizno's ?
I noticed last week that they've shrunk the sandwiches (again) and discontinued red onions in favor of cheaper white onions. Having said that, Quizno's is in no danger of disappearing. Better franchisees are doing quite well. But expect a decline in store numbers. A lot of people not experienced in ...

Re: Groceries and Gas
Yeah, we hardly have any oil company-branded gas stations in town anymore...a few BP's. The major players are dedicated convenience chains Kum & Go and Casey's (both who are based here) and QuikTrip. And even dedicated convenience chains are starting to show signs of moving away from gas. I saw ...

...and 'retail watchers'.
I think I would have kept JCP in caps. The red box could still be used in the JCP part and give it the differentiation they're looking for. All lower-case together looks like of messy to me.

Re: Ultimate Electronics To Close All Stores
I know they've reformatted quite a bit since the last time I was in one, but there was NO comparison to Best Buy with their stores ten years ago. Ultimate carried higher end brands and models (mid-range stuff like Denon, Boston Acoustics, etc. They had the most extensive line of Sennheiser headphone...
