Re: Saars Marketplace

The Saars Marketplace in Renton was indeed formerly a Lucky store that also had a Skagg's Drug Center next door. The Skagg's later did become a Osco and then Paylesss Drugs. But before Saar's, when Lucky's Seattle Division was sold to Associated Grocers, this location became a Thriftway. After being...

WinCo coming to Tacoma

I am not sure when it is going to open, but WinCo is going to be opening in Tacoma Place Shopping Center at S 72nd Street and I-5. When this shopping center was built, it acutally had the only Food 4 Less store that I had ever seen in Washington State. Eventually Food 4 Less closed and it became a f...

Re: Fresh groceries coming to WA Target stores?

I am wondering if some Targets might be prohibited to add produce and meat because of their lease? One example I can think of could be where Target is in a shopping center with an existing grocer in the same center. The Target at Westwood Village in West Seattle comes to mind. It is one of the first...

Re: Seafood City

Thank you Brian for noting that the Seafood City space is a former Mervyn's. I should also note that this will mark the return of a pharmacy since the closure of Pay 'n Save at Southcenter.

Seafood City

In July, Westfield Southcenter in Tukwila will be opening a new Seafood City Marketplace. This marks the return of a supermarket since the closure of Gary's Market in the old Lucky Supermarket location in the late 1980's. This will be a Filipino oriented Asian market with mainstream selections as we...

Re: Has anyone seen this in a Kroger-owned store yet?

The decor that was shown at the beginning of this thread has been used in a couple of QFC remodels. One is at the Wallingford store in Seattle, formerly Food Giant. The other is the North Seattle QFC on NE 145th that was a former Olson's.

Re: Supervalu Exiting the Cincinnati Market

It is kind of a shame that Kroger didn't buy biggs. I have never been in Cincinnati but I am assuming that biggs is kind of similar to Fred Meyer. So the biggs stores with general merchandise could have been Kroger-biggs and the biggs that were just supermarkets could have been just Kroger. I know t...
