They did have a downtown Philadelphia store for quite some time.

I stopped in my local Sears yesterday and actually bought something for four bucks. They’re still using 125th anniversary bags from three years ago, so you may have something there…

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?

Sears, Friendly Center, Greensboro NC, this past Saturday. This is a large mid-1970s store that has offloaded about 20% of its square footage to Whole Foods. It was actually better stocked than I expected and there were 10-15 customers inside. But still, the recruitment poster seems like a cruel jok...

Re: Food Lion To Buy 62 Bi-Lo / Harvey's Stores From Southeastern Grocers

Harvey’s was indeed formerly owned by Delhaize. Southeastern has run it as a “value“ brand, and a good chunk of the stores are former Bi-Lo locations.

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

Harris Teeter is closing all stores at 9 starting tomorrow "to focus on cleaning, replenishment, and the well-being of our valued associates." It's not quite as crazy in my part of NC (yet) with outages mostly limited to bread, paper products, and disinfecting/cleaning supplies. But meat a...

Greensboro NC Harris Teeter (ex-Kroger) closing

Harris Teeter closing a Greensboro store by the end of March Not surprising. This former Kmart opened as a massive Kroger (the largest in the state IIRC) in 1997 and was taken over by Harris Teeter in 1999 when kroger left the market. HT reduced the footprint and has not really updated the store in...

Re: Safeway opening four new stores in NorCal this year

According to groceteria.com, the current building was constructed as an Albertons in 1999, but this article states it opened as a Lucky in 2002. It was planned as a Lucky before the 1999 Albertsons/American Stores merger but it definitely opened as Albertsons. Lucky had disappeared as a banner by 2...

Re: Pak 'n Save

IIRC Pak 'n Save came into the fold when Safeway purchased the small Brentwood chain in NorCal in 1983.
