Re: Ralphs, Food 4 Less to Close 3 Los Angeles Stores over $5 per hour extra Hazard Pay

Jewish community dismayed at Kroger’s closure of Ralphs in Pico-Robertson. Protests inside store. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-04-05/pico-ralphs-los-angeles-closing-stores I suggest they focus their efforts on getting another grocer to take the space. And ensuring Ralphs doesn't pa...

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021

Thanks Romr123 That store truly has to be seen to be believed. They must have started with a fairly standard ~1960s-era grocery store with an exposed, peaked roof. At some point, probably in the 70s or early 80s, they bolted on a generic rectangular box that now has the general merchandise departme...

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021

Storewanderer, do you happen to know the story of why Safeway ended up with this store from Ray's? I remember that there were elements of that store that do not feel original to Safeway. Not sure when or why this store ended up with Safeway. Ray's built a few stores like this in the early 90's that...

Re: Target Closing 2 Small Stores in the San Francisco Bay Area

I would have preferred for them to perfect the "Super" format along with locations better suited for their Brand (Targets in Walmart type demographics don't work that well.). The last Super Target I was in was in Indio (Coachella Valley Ca.). WRONG neighborhood right next to a busy Winco....

Re: Lack of ham this Easter

Grocery stores did not seem very busy in the days leading up to Easter. Wal Mart and Target on the other hand were absolutely packed. Wal Mart has sold out of over 90% of its Easter in the locations I went into last night, and I am shocked because they had a ton left even a week ago. Also noticed mo...

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021

I beg your pardon--it WAS indeed Coos Bay that I saw. We were driving north on Hwy 1 and stopped at the Safeway for a restroom...saw the FM (which was the first we'd encountered) and was shocked. You saw what is easily the most run down Fred Meyer building in the entire chain. But the interior of t...

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021

You may talk about how great the apparel department at Fred Meyer was but it has been a money loser or at best a break even operation since the 90s. Very little clothing was ever sold at or near regular price. It's why the Marketplace concept has so little clothing, it didn't make financial sense t...

Re: Fred Meyer & Target changes - 2021

Fred Meyer's clothing operation is really lacking at this point. I mean, there are items there. Lots of items. But they don't seem to be the right items, or at the right prices. I think many of their items would struggle to move even at 80% off. They are lacking low priced basics like Wal Mart, and ...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

I think there are about 30 Sears Stores currently not in liquidation. There are about 20 Kmarts not in liquidation, hell maybe 15 or so as of this post. Once Kmart runs out of the remaining warehouse inventory to sell and supplies, they will probably shut down. Not much is coming out of Kmart wareh...

Re: Target Closing 2 Small Stores in the San Francisco Bay Area

These small stores also strain the logistics network. When the logistics network is stretched to the max, you don't want to waste your time delivering a few units of product to a small store. You need to deliver pallets to a larger store and move on to deliver more pallets to more larger stores. Add...
