Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

I think there are about 30 Sears Stores currently not in liquidation. There are about 20 Kmarts not in liquidation, hell maybe 15 or so as of this post. Once Kmart runs out of the remaining warehouse inventory to sell and supplies, they will probably shut down. Not much is coming out of Kmart wareh...

Re: Target Closing 2 Small Stores in the San Francisco Bay Area

These small stores also strain the logistics network. When the logistics network is stretched to the max, you don't want to waste your time delivering a few units of product to a small store. You need to deliver pallets to a larger store and move on to deliver more pallets to more larger stores. Add...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

Somebody should write a tell all book on Lampert detailing his incompetence, greed and how he murdered Sears and Kmart. That dude is worse than what Perelman did to Pantry Pride - Revlon (Food Fair). I wouldn't call Lampert incompetent. Greedy yes. His ideas in retail are clearly flawed. But I've n...

Re: Pep Boys - out of the parts biz?

They have rebranded most of the Carquest stores to Advance in my area, but there are a handful that retain the Carquest name, one I know of is in St. Helens, Oregon. I am not sure if the stores remaining Carquest are franchises though. The rebranding has had mixed results, the one in Longview, WA (...

Re: Target Closing 2 Small Stores in the San Francisco Bay Area

Pick-up makes it easy to return stuff rather than boxing it up, etc., so it's cheaper for Target and the customer. It's also easier for stuff that's likely to leak, get broken, etc. than shipping. One of the hassles of delivery is theft and clueless Amazon people delivering to the wrong address. An...

Re: Pep Boys - out of the parts biz?

Pep Boys in Sparks, NV has liquidation sale type signs up now saying 40% off all in-store merchandise. These signs appear to have gone up in the past 2 days. I went into the store. Walked in and saw the customer service counter and checkstand (which is an old grocery store type turntable) both de-co...

Re: Albertsons opens new store in El Paso

Store opened a few days ago (eight locations in the city, wow). It looks like they have same circular checkstand things like they did in stores of old? https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/2021/04/02/albertsons-opening-eighth-el-paso-store-location-zaragoza-east-side/4840011001/ Interesting yes t...

Re: Associated opens new independent in Colorado City, AZ

Yes, Colorado City and Hildale have quite the history. ;) It's interesting to me that there is going to be (by the glass) beer, wine, and a coffeehouse available. Utah really is changing for the better, in my opinion. Even as recently as a few decades ago, many communities had blue laws. I understa...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

I wish they both would just die already! Maybe when the last 20 year old cash register or scanner breaks, when the last 20 year old inventory scanning device breaks, that 30 year old shelf tag system finally bites the dust, the last sign paper with a red K logo is used, when the last store pr...

Re: Albertsons opens new store in El Paso

This looks like the new Safeway Stores NorCal has opened too (El Dorado Hills, Sacramento-Crocker, and soon to be Reno). This is a stock Albertsons prototype, it follows their late 80's/early 90's store layout generally speaking. Biggest difference is produce gets no wall space in these stores, the ...
