Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
https://www.supermarketnews.com/laws-regulations/kroger-albertsons-file-pointed-responses-ftc Albertsons and Kroger have slapped back at the FTC. Some notes: "The retailers assert that C&S would be well-positioned to operate the stores and that their divestiture plan bears no resemblance to...

Re: Dollar Tree - Family Dollar
Is Dollar General doing financially better than Dollar Tree? If Family Dollar can't seem to make those stores work I don't know how those stores could be profitable under Dollar General. Most of the new Dollar General stores are new builds in rural or semi-rural areas. Since a lot of the closures h...

Re: Wal Mart Neighborhood Market Closing Granite Bay. CA
Walmart Neighborhood Market seems to do better in some markets than others. I remember they gained a big foothold in Dallas by the 2000s (some former Albertsons later), and I remember being intrigued with the green color scheme they had to counter the normal Wal-Mart blue. My area doesn't have any. ...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie
"Remember that Aldi operates with a mindset that is its own religion, and the corporate offices are all fanatics. They firmly believe that their little, low volume stores are superior to the big supermarket chains with tens of thousands of items which are "obsolete" and "dinosau...

Re: SLC WinCo joins Teamsters
Why is that? Is there word of a union drive in those OK/TX Stores? I have not heard of one. As I understand it, for employee-owned companies, they'd have to vote if Albertsons or Kroger or whoever approached them, but if there's no one really financially vested in the stores in TX/OK, there is goin...

Re: SLC WinCo joins Teamsters
In past materials I saw UFCW put out, they called them out for basically scheduling people "just slightly too few" hours to qualify for the ESOP and making it harder for newer employees to get into the ESOP than employees who were able to enter it back in the 90's. This does not sound unl...

Re: SLC WinCo joins Teamsters
Vesting used to be 5 years in, so this is an example of how even an "esop" company has made some changes to retain (?) younger workers. Long ago, I had a friend working for this company and she stated that mysterious things always seemed to happen to folks at her store(s) right before the...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
The only correlation that HEB does not have to Publix is that they have not been able to replicate the formula outside their home state. I do not expect that to continue much longer, as I think they are itching to expand somewhere again outside Texas and northern Mexico. The more I think about it, ...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
HEB has pretty strong pricing. I did notice a lot of variances in pricing between stores but for the most part HEB is a tough priced store and will absolutely go to battle over price. They are priced much stronger than Publix or Hy Vee- two chains that really do not go to battle over price. Kroger'...
