Re: Bashas' oldest remaining store to close
I don't think Gelson's would make it in Arizona with its pricing. Most markets don't really have an upscale operator... AJ's is a bit of an oddball. I also don't think those AJ's Stores are particularly high volume outside their meat, bakery, deli, and prepared foods/coffee areas. I'm not sure I'd ...

Re: My First Nasty Fry's Experience
Thanks for the info on other less-than-stellar Fry's stores. I shopped at the Mill/Southern store when temporarily living in Tempe. Not a very well-kept store. BUT here's a funny story about that one. Like I said, I was living in an extended-stay hotel for a few months until my corporate housing ca...

Re: My First Nasty Fry's Experience
Thunderbird / 40th St and Bell / 43rd Ave used to be "nasty" stores that have been cleaned up nicely over the last few years. Also, many of the ex-Smitty's Marketplace stores have seen some more recent love as Glendale / 19th Ave, Peoria / 43rd Ave, Bell / 32nd St, and Bell / 27th Ave are ...

Re: My First Nasty Fry's Experience
I've lived in The Valley for a year now and have really liked shopping at Fry's. Until this evening when I stopped into the 60th Street and Thomas Road location in Scottsdale. Low ceilings, dirty ceiling tiles, shabby floors, and just very tired looking. Even the Fry's on 7th Ave and Camelback and ...

Re: Multiple Sam's Club Stores to close
Although perhaps not as much as would first be thought - after all, if you place an order there and go to pick it up, should you think of something else you forgot to get (or hear an ad for product x while en route that sounds good) it would only be sensible to grab it while you are there, rather t...

Re: Multiple Sam's Club Stores to close
I suppose it could also go the opposite way - if someone comes along willing to buy BJ's and would then purchase some or all of the Sam's Club locations to create one larger chain (particularly since BJ's is limited to mainly east coast states, excepting Ohio and Pennsylvania)? Also one might wonde...

Re: Kroger May Sell Off Its Convenience Store Chains, Including Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill
They've sold the stores to a British company called EG Group for $2.15 billion.
The supermarket fuel centers and Turkey Hill Dairy are not part of the transaction.

Re: Multiple Sam's Club Stores to close
I wonder if we could see a situation where BJ's takes over Sam's Club and anything that needs to be divested goes to Costco? Not a chance. The private equity firm that owns BJ's is trying to sell. https://nypost.com/2017/09/26/bjs-owner-looking-to-sell-chain-for-4-5b/ Walmart was interested in 2011.

Re: Multiple Sam's Club Stores to close
The idea that they want to reboot is kindof funny and doesn't fit with closing stores in relatively upscale areas. The funny part is that moving upscale is very difficult to do and selling suchi at Sam's isn't going to do it. I also doubt that they do all that well with B2B. The norm rather than th...

Re: Multiple Sam's Club Stores to close
I'm not too sure about that. Most of them that I've seen were in the poorest areas of town. Baton Rouge, for example, moved from bad to worse in its current location that is closing. The Cortana Mall area has been suffering ever since the Mall of Louisiana opened (in 1997). Business has been slowly...
