Re: Winn-Dixie Reveals Next generation Store

And of course, Rouses might have interest in some of the stores (probably Breaux Bridge if I had to pick one). If Rouses were to get one, I'd place my bets on New Iberia and Franklin. Both of those stores would fill in some markets between Morgan City and Lafayette that Rouses skipped over. Breaux ...

Re: Retro for Subway?

I have noticed the current ads for Subway are using the 80s non italicized Subway logo at the end-not the slanted logo. Are they going back to the old logo? Could the wallpaper with the 1900s newspapers be coming back? I hope that wallpaper isn't coming back. And yes, there is a 'new' logo, but it ...

Re: Winn-Dixie Reveals Next generation Store

I wonder how much real estate them own vs. how many stores are leased. Those are cheap real estate regions but owning stores could be helping them (though deferred maintenance could come to haunt them). During the 2005 Bankruptcy, dark store leases were the number one debt. Seems that they'd move o...

Re: Winn-Dixie Reveals Next generation Store

Not that it's too late for Winn-Dixie/BI-LO...one great way to save the company is a following exchange that would really help out the company and operations is for LSF to buy the southern Food Lion stores from Ahold Delhaize, establish it as its own company, dissolve SEG by selling non-core assets...

Re: Price Chopper/Market 32 for sale

It's possible, like in the Brookshire's fiasco (also family owned), that there is probably some in-fighting going on inside the corporate walls. The difference here was that there was an official announcement from Brookshire that they were up for sale. The story that broke on Friday with relation t...

Here's why you should only trust the source:

Re: Crucial times for Shoppers

The fact that they're still around and kicking for an almost Kmart-level number of screwups is frankly amazing. You have to keep in mind that Supervalu is the old Albertsons. The New Albertsons is owned by Cerberus, and while the stores and ideas are the same, the folks running them are not. Kmart-...

Winn Dixie Marketplace types

I'm pulling this out of the Oregon Safeway Discussion: All areas of Winn-Dixie had up to 5 different types of Marketplace stores. For a little history: WD started building Marketplace stores in 1988. One of the originals was in Baton Rouge, with others to follow in several areas later. At the time,...

To try to pull this back on topic, I'm going to move the WD discussion elsewhere.

Re: Safeway Super Stores and Marketplaces (1977-1994)

The Safeway Super Stores were popular in Texas. I went to two in particular; Longview and Tyler. Longview was at 103 W. Whaley St. downtown. It was just below Longview's water towers for many years. Initially, it was a Safeway/Super S (later Skaggs) combo. It was remodeled into the Super Store in 19...
