Re: Publix expanding to Virginia

The jury is out on what will happen with Albertsons by then. Publix would need to expand into and infill in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisia...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
I will agree Kroger has acquired chains in their entirety, and would not be interested in Southeastern Grocers as a whole. I think Kroger may make one or two major acquisitions in the near future.

Main and Vine is different from the The Fresh Market because of a focus on organic health and beauty. The Fresh Market does not have much in non-food items.

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
Kroger, outside a few stores here and there, hasn't grown organically in over 20 years. They go in, buy a competitor, and take over. Only problem with Florida is that the only competitor left there is Winn-Dixie. And they won't go where they can't be #1; they would have to put a lot into WD. I coul...

Re: Kroger speculated to acquire The Fresh Market
If Kroger acquires The Fresh Market, it would operate as a subsidiary like Harris Teeter and Roundy's. The Fresh Market is a specialty/gourmet grocer, and attracts a different customer.

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia
The mid-Atlantic United States may provide quicker opportunities for Publix to expand the territory of its Charlotte Division, add many stores in new markets, and establish itself for possible northward expansion. Publix has not forgotten about the southeastern United States and possible westward ex...

Re: Could Kroger be preparing for a Florida move-in?
Further expansion in Florida for Kroger is possible. Its Atlanta, Mid-Atlantic, Nashville, and Harris Teeter divisions are seeing Publix expand across their territories. Kroger could acquire a current participant with significant store count in Florida, expand the Harris Teeter division across Flori...

Re: Publix expanding to Virginia
I find Publix's announcement to enter Virginia interesting and exciting. It had planned to enter the commonwealth since entering North Carolina and establishing the Charlotte Division. Stores The Bristol, Virginia, store will be in the Atlanta Division. Most of Virginia, including the Glen Allen sto...
