Interestingly, there's an existing 99 Ranch Market in Arcadia about 1.5 miles away from the new mall location. This is a hugely successful mall (formerly owned by Westfield) in an area with a substantial Asian population and a lot of Asian-related stores and restaurants, in addition to many traditional mall tenants. South Pasadena Vons Closing Next Month

Per this article. This is the store that's literally across the street from a Pavilions. It's been that way since the Safeway acquisition. I'm surprised they kept two stores open for so long, especially as the distinction between Vons and Pavilions eroded over the years.

Macy's Eagle Rock Plaza (Los Angeles, a former May Co.) is closing in September. There are two much nicer Macy's stores nearby, at the Glendale Galleria (former Broadway) and in Pasadena (former Bullock's.)

Bedford Marketplace, the new center, is in the right part of Corona for a Whole Foods, and if Amazon hadn't been trying to launch Fresh I would have expected the developer of that site to be courting WFM as their first choice to anchor it.
