Update about the (still) closed Minyard Sun Fresh locations that Central Market purchased:

Sounds like Uptown is going to be 'upzoned' (har har) in response to the increased urbanization of the area, but with Central Market as a key tenant.

This article was actually published last summer, and last I have heard, plans are still in the works for that site. Although the current store facility was built in the mid-90's, it has not aged well and would require extensive renovation to convert into a Central Market. Considering the value of the property and its redevelopment potential, it makes sense for HEB to simply wait for the developer to finalize the plans, then move onto the site as part of the future development.

Side note, speaking of Central Market, the Northwest Highway/Midway store is finally moving along, and quite rapidly at that. HEB has actually converted a portion of the space into two stories, while also extending the front of the store out to sit flush with the rest of the surrounding shopping center (my guess is that this new portion will be a prominent glass piece, much like the Preston/Royal store). In addition, two tenants have been relocated from lease spaces to the front right side of the main store entrance to elsewhere in the center to give HEB an opportunity to place curbside pickup into this space. So in essence, the curbside pickup area will actually appear to be a separate space within the retail strip. Currently, steel is complete and mechanical rough ins are taking place. I expect that we will see this store come online sometime this summer.

Plans are now official for the Uptown store, and they are exciting to say the least. It will be the largest Central Market in the chain at approximately 150,000 sq ft.
