Save Mart Equipment Auctions from closed stores

Post by storewanderer »

This is the first time I have ever seen Save Mart do equipment auctions at closed stores.

Interestingly, they also have two closed stores up in Nevada (one 1992 Albertsons, one 1996 Albertsons; both never got remodeled other than Save Mart's conversion repaint) that are slated to convert to Food Maxx. Both stores closed in March. So far the stores still have the Save Mart exterior signs up and have not been touched one bit inside. I am not sure what is going on but I would think they would be in a hurry to get the stores converted?

--This group of stores just closed in the past month:

One of the worst capex decisions made by NorCal Albertsons: this was a 1980's era Lucky, expanded to be like a grocery palace in a rather mature neighborhood. There was some kind of large furniture store across the road on one side that vacated in the early 00's and became an odd less than 100,000 square foot Wal Mart Supercenter. Then, to make matters worse, a long vacant former Lumberjack (also known as Payless Cashways) was redeveloped into a WinCo on the next lot over to the other direction. http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos It is amazing this store limped along as Save Mart as long as it did.

This was a new build Lucky in the late 1990's replacing a much older store nearby. Albertsons did not remodel this store at all, it had Lucky decor until the Save Mart conversion. The surrounding center is full and includes a Trader Joe's, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. Not sure what happened here. http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos

This was a store that Save Mart bought from Lucky in the late 1990's so it never made it to Albertsons. But it did get the mid 1990's American Stores remodel job. http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos

This is a former Frys that Save Mart remodeled right before they bought NorCal Albertsons, which I thought was a good performing store and I am not quite sure why it is being closed, maybe a redevelopment site: http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos

This is another former Frys and was probably remodeled in the late 1990's; there is a former Albertsons now Lucky right across the street and it is understandable they do not need two stores at the same intersection: http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos

--This store has been closed for years, it is a former Fleming F4L Store:

--This store has also been closed for at least a few years, it is a former Lucky that never received a remodel from Albertsons and received the cheapest possible version of the American Stores mid 1990's remodels (just repainted the walls, an exercise repeated again by Save Mart when they took over, nobody ever did re-floor or anything much else): http://www.grafeauction.com/auction_det ... morephotos
