Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
Stater Bros officially announced they're taking over the lease and open a store on the site.
I've never been inside a Stater Bros before, looking forward to the new store.

Here's a recently opened Stater in a former Ralph's. I would think it would be similar (the other store is a little larger):SoCalShopper1023 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2018, 4:49 pmI've never been inside a Stater Bros before, looking forward to the new store.
Yelp: Stater Bros Riverside
Google Maps: Stater Bros Riverside
There is a nearby Sprouts in the same center. Apparently enough grocery demand for all!
Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
So, Vons said they wanted to keep the store open but the property owner wanted Stater Bros instead. I wonder why they rejected Vons?

Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
I would think with its smaller company size and local footprint, Stater could potentially do just that.SoCalShopper1023 wrote: ↑May 28th, 2017, 10:01 pm The neighborhood in which that store is located is predominantly Armenian/Middle Eastern. Maybe the landlord wants to lease that building to an ethnic grocer that caters to the Armenian community like Jons Marketplace (all they have to do is replace the "V" with a "J" in the signage ) or a Super King Market.
Similar to what happened with the former Alhambra Ralphs that became an 99 Ranch Market, and the soon to be Vallarta former Vons or Fair Oaks.

Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
So that will be Stater Bros. westernmost store (at least in the San Gabriel Valley), right? Currently they only go as far as the Azusa/Glendora border.
Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
As far as the San Gabriel Valley goes the current westernmost store is West Covina.
As far was westernmost in general I think it would be Simi Valley.
Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
A lot of their early stores did exactly that (Although they're changed the logo since):SoCalShopper1023 wrote: ↑May 28th, 2017, 10:01 pmMaybe the landlord wants to lease that building to an ethnic grocer that caters to the Armenian community like Jons Marketplace (all they have to do is replace the "V" with a "J" in the signage )

Re: North Pasadena Vons May Close
I think it is interesting at this point a landlord would favor Stater over Vons. I recall this happened with Ralphs a year or two ago as well...
Well, good for Stater. Customers will see price decreases and better service levels in the store. Maybe it is a win? Stater is the only conventional operator in SoCal who has store count gains in the past 5-10 years so they seem to do something (a lot) right, even if their stores aren't very exciting.
