There was an article in SFGate about a mid-level Safeway manager that opened up an AMA on Reddit that looks at some of the company's problems. Safeway's NorCal spokesperson (not Albertsons' spokesperson, interestingly enough) wasn't too happy about it, but it is illuminating (though having worked in a Safeway-owned store, I could have said many of the same things).

As a customer I could have said many of the same things just based on what I've observed...
I think there is a lot of pressure on this company right now to get the operations straightened out. Customers are fed up.
