Whole Foods Market has had a store planned for West Seattle for quite some time. Locations for the store had changed but now the store is cancelled. Here is the story from the West Seattle Herald:

Re: Whole Foods Cancels West Seattle Store
The minimum wage law wouldn't be the reason in this case because all competitors would have to pay the same wage and there would be a level playing field.
They are cutting new store growth significantly and have put other projects in different parts of the country on hold, as well.

Whole Foods used to be the main place to get organic food. Now you can get cheaper organic food at local conventional supermarkets. Whole Foods is afraid that these new stores will not be very profitable as customers leave in droves.
Perhaps Whole Foods wants to focus on selling themselves to Albertsons or some other private equity group.

Re: Whole Foods Cancels West Seattle Store
Now that Amazon has bought Whole Foods, the West Seattle store is going to be built. I actually had wondered if maybe Amazon saw the value of having a store in which their influence could be built into the design from the ground up?!
