Salt Lake City picks up another urban grocery

Post by SamSpade »

The "Marmalade District" as realtors re-branded this part of northwest Salt Lake City starting about 15 years ago....
... has apparently gained enough population to finally support its own grocery store.
Salt Lake City’s Marmalade neighborhood get its first grocery store in decades

The area has students (LDS Business College is nearby, West High School across the street), new housing, and an increasingly "well heeled" residential community as the area expanded upward and lots were redeveloped from vacant or worn down homes into taller residential buildings and a certain population wanting to live closer in to the downtown but with a more residential neighborhood. Some also say that this is Salt Lake City's "gayborhood," although most nightlife and the community center are no longer in this area.

A library opened in the area in early 2016.

Nearby, in the re-forming Gateway development, The Store opened a 9,000 square foot store in 2019. Both companies are supplied by Associated Foods

2023 update.
Apparently this store did close in 2022, which was probably partially related to changes in consumer habits alongside that part of Salt Lake City being "in transition."

The store is re-opening now though, read all about it here:
Lee’s Market is set to reopen in Salt Lake City. Here’s how version 2.0 will be different.
