Trader Joes HQ Location

Post by storewanderer »

I bought a carton of milk at Trader Joes and it is produced in CA, as usual.

However this time I notice the carton has different distribution information:

It says Distributed and sold exclusively by Trader Joe's Needham, MA.

Needham, MA?

I thought HQ was in CA.

Needham is their main East Coast office; I have seen other products with that address listed before. Their boxed mac and cheese is a good example, with one variety labeled with a CA address and the other with a MA address.

It could be a regulatory or legal requirement. Some states (most notably, Louisiana) have laws about dairy product origination and pricing. It could also be FDA regulations also, requiring a place of origin.
