Walmart opening Pickup Only store in Chicago Area

Interesting concept. This may be their growth vehicle for the future (and I'd expect may convert some Neighborhood Market stores to this format).

I don't think so. Sears tried this several years ago as mygofer, a converted Kmart that essentially acted as a catalog showroom (either by Internet or computers up front). Yeah, I know it was Sears, and I know it was before grocery pickup became as big as it is now, but grocery pickup cuts out impulse buying and even for normal stores, the grocery pickup can't be that big of their business model.

I expect that Walmart will try it and run it, then kill it in a few years (if that) if it's not a huge success, like so many of their other projects in the last 10-15 years (Hispanic variants of Sam's Club and Walmart Neighborhood Market, Sam's Club Business Center, Walmart Express).
